"We have an average of 33 reports of tornadoes in the UK each year but these are especially rare in built-up areas and there has not been one of this strength in many years." to be honest neither did i, we hardly notice them because they are never anything big most of the time, the last big one was a few years back. If anyone is interested click here to see some photos of the damage it inflicted i found on the net

Birmingham seems to get a lot of tornadoes. I have relatives there, and they can remember at least three in the past 10 years. I think most of the Twisters here in the UK happen offshore; they are waterspouts. I never remember there being one this strong though; most of them were F1 or F2 at most...

Check out the birth of a tornado, pretty cool!

They will appear one minute, tear up whatever’s in its path, and then be gone….

We get one around here(South West PA) every once in a while. The last one was in 2000 and was not even an F1. Tornados can spwan anywhere so this is not that unsusal. If you want real tornados you need to go in the mid-west section of the Us, they get fun there.

Tornadoes do happen in other places besides the U.S., but with much less frequency. I think that Russia is #2 in the world for tornadoes. This was according to a NWS severe weather specialist that I talked to last spring. I'll have to look on the net to be sure (and start Googling). Another good question would be if any other country has seen an F5 tornado. I think the answer is no, but I remember reading in a book that possibly they had one in Europe, but I'm too unsure to say anything definite. I guess I'll have to Google that as well or even get back to the library when I get back to Clemson.
