hey. im on a traineeship for I.T tech work (cert 3) and advanced network admin. i recently turned 18 and expected a pay rise from my already crappy low wage :P... now i thought u got ur pay rise progressivly as u turned older. yet my boss insists that it is based on how many years you have been out of school for. does any one have some info on this, or what they do in your work place :) thx rusy208

There is no standard for how a company calculates time vs performance for a raise. They are all entitled to do their own methods for calculating this reward. However the unofficial standard is exactly what your boss describes. He's providing extra income based on experience you would gather, not how old you get.

Exactly. My employer, for instance, increases the salary by the year of the traineeship.

I started right on minimum wage, and moved up by little amounts ($0.40 or so) since then, but only one of those was a pay rise. The rest is from minimum wage rises.

When i start my new job August 6th, i'm starting out at $8.50 a hour, and should be making near $11 a hour within two years.

And thats for picking boxes up and loading them into trailers all day.

:S well atm im getting 303 before tax for 38hours. with a 50 -100 doller bonus a week depending how much labour i put through the system (this is only something the boss has bought in recently) pretty much means i get 7.90ish per hour. i called wage line and according to them hes overpaying me :S however i think its insignifigant for the amout of work i have to do

most places i know of do it based on how long you have worked for them like maybe they give a raise every five years you have worked there

turning 18 only means they are entitled by law to pay you minimum wage
