Sorry if this has been asked before, but... how do you do transparency for torpedo textures and stuff like that?

I don't think you need it. I've seen torpedos without transparacy (alpha channels) and they work fine.

Alpha channels are glowing textures not transparencies

And the alpha transparancy is in the "torpdeoname".py( the torpedo's name is infront of a .py as a script name) script in the weapons/projectiles folder. You need to open it with notepad.

There are a number of such programs. PaintShop is not so expensive, at one time you could download it with a full use trial before it expired. Doing a search on goodle or altavista 'alpha channel' will send you into website tutorials explaining how various applications get their alpha channels in place. That leads you to lots a discussion on the programs they use. You will need these sites anyway to learn to use the alpha channel feature.
