...for calling Obama a prick in a drunken e-mail he sent to the White House. He was later visited by the FBI and told he was banned from entering the USA forever.

In all honesty, I'm not all that upset about this, he looks like a chav and should have been banned from entering the USA just for that.

Luke, of Silsoe, Beds, said it was "a bit extreme" for the FBI to act.

This. Fucking this.

This was an extreme overreaction if you ask me. It's not like teens in the US or other countries have not done worse things than that. He's only a teenager who - while drunk, apparently - called Obama a prick. Is it that much of a deal, seriously? At least, not that offensive for the FBI to act in such a manner.

A foolish overreaction, is what this comes down to.

I wouldn't be surprised if people who threaten and insult the president are classified as potentially violent. If that person only has a student visa then the easiest solution is to kick him out.

There are enough people who insult politicians and whatnot (and some times even threaten too, as seemingly in this case). Kicking him out for actual threats, all right, but insulting is just overreaction, Fancypants. He has the right to think that Obama is a prick; I'm not saying that Obama is, but you get my point.

And what is the chance a British student of 17 years old, would travel all the way to Obama to attempt to hurt him? Slim, granted that the student did not show odd behaviour in advance.

A permanent ban from the US is an overreaction, and what the FBI did may be unconstitutional. Threatening the president isn't allowed, but insulting him is within free speech.

So much for "land of the free". Makes you wonder what they'd do if they had the addresses of some of the people on the internet(other than those they already have).

I'm not sure what the guy wrote (I ain't reading anything that has the sun or some other tabloid source...), but unless these were (semi/potentially) serious death treats (heh...) I'd say it's a bit of an overreaction to slap a permanent ban on him. Retracting any visa and/or temporary (say 2-3 months) entry to the country would seem like a very or even overly strict response...

Hmm, what's the White House's email address? I'm tempted to follow suit..

On a serious note, I can understand having laws that prevent you from saying "I'm going to kill the President", or indeed conspiring too; but this is way over the top..

Everyone does realize that the kid said, after being drunk, that he THINKS he called Obama a prick. There could have been threats in the email that the FBI hasn't published.

I personally don't care, its one person, doesn't really affect me.

That's just such a plain statement, really. It's just one person, all right. Mind if it's one of your relatives? I doubt it.
