Get ready for disappointment! U.S. Top Gear Hosts Officially Announced by NBC

What i dont understand is how the hell they ended up with Eric Stromer (a.k.a. that HGTV guy), i guess they only through him in because Jay Leno would not do the bit.

Jay Leno, who originally turned down offers to host the show, expressed concern over whether or not a show like Top Gear could be successful in America. In a column published by The Sunday Times, Leno expresses concern that an American version could lack the critical reviews the British version is known for. The British show is produced for the BBC with public funds while the American show will air on commercial television. Leno believes that the show may have to worry about offending current and potential sponsors by giving their products poor reviews, leading to a compromise in the journalistic integrity and freedom of the original show.

I am afraid of the same thing Leno is, that they will be to scared to stick it to the sponsors of the show. I think it would be worth giving a good chance if Leno was on it, but i just dont know about it. If you read the article it say Erics preferred ride is a Camry Hybrid:rofl: Now this would not be a big deal if he had a few other much Nicer cars at home, but i highly doubt that, i also doubt he has interest in cars what so ever. James May and Richard Hammond might not have had any automotive background, but atleast they show a good amount of interest, Hammond is even an old muscle car geek.

Atleast one thing will be slightly better, none of the BBC Top Gear host know shit about cars, they know of them, but they really dont know shit about them and they always play it off like they do. I hope that the games and events wont be as horribly scripted, they are entertaining, but its always obvious who is going to win, everything they do is setup, even most of the comparison tests.

Wow you don't like British top gear very much!

To be honest this US top gear just wont be the same with clarkson and the rest of the crew.

being stupid and obvious is half the fun of the show my mom watches it with me and my dad and has no intrest in cars but enjoys the humour in it.

they may not no that much about cars but they have engineering backgrounds so do no some of what it is about. i cant see the american airforce or navy just going to pop down to the studio to chase a car as easily as i can with the brits.

maybe the main reason is americans dont always get british humour

i also heard there is an australian version coming

i love the show, i watch it every time i can, but cheap entertainment is all it has. i was just pointing out flaws i wish could be corrected with the newer version, not bashing the show. theres nothing really stupid about it, i dont know where you get that, i just wish they could leave the games completely unscripted, not have stuff intentionally "just happen" all the time, but i guess it probably wouldnt be near as entertaining though because i seriously doubt anyone could have as much trouble with things as they constantly have. i do hate Clarkson though, he is a twat. Hammond is my favorite of the group.

The US version is actually written by BBC America and from the way they talk about it, it will be exactly the same, but with different host

There is no way US Top Gear could be nearly as fun as British.
