On the internet, people will make jokes about everyone and everything, but in your opinion, where's the point where you just go "Wow, this is in terrible taste" and not find a joke funny?

Anything outside of the control of the person the joke is about. For instance, a birth defect, visual deformity, or the like. Little sister had a cleft palate and I was born with strabismus. Just don't go there.

I am generally someone who can joke about anything or anything. I think it becomes problematic when there is potential to harm the person or group that the joke concerns. Making fun of someone you just met who shares something which makes him/her feel vulnerable is in very poor taste. Making fun of a friend you've known for a while for being a bit of a dunce in some situation is entirely different. It requires careful judgement calls on where that line lies.

Very true!

I forget where I picked this up, but wise words:

"Never make fun of someone for their laugh or the way they eat as they are unlikely to do either around you ever again."

* When it starts to be considered an attack.

* When you involve someone's family. (Seriously. Leave family out of your conversation. This is between you and that guy.)

* When you make fun of something, ANYTHING, that they have no control over.
