Comments on myspace ME: What's up Derek? How's life in the slow lane doing?

Derek: Seeing as how you needed more comments and I had to get you back for that comment about life in the slow lane, I thought I should leave you some inspirational words of wisdom to help you make it through your pathetic meager little existance, yes I know that's redundant but, I wouldn't expect someone of your intelligence to grasp such an abstract concept as redundancy. And as for those words of wisdom... It is not wise to insult the wiser.

ME: HAHA. I liked your comment about you being wiser. I am just going to make this short and simple. The wise people are the ones who know they are foolish, and the fools are the ones who think they are wise.

Derek: Very funny thom thom, however, your argument lacks one fundamental concept... wisdom, the comment itself shows a lack thereof. Allow me to explain, if the wise know they are foolish then they are not wise because they are foolish, and if fools are the only ones that think they are wise then wisdom itself is contradicted. A wise person would know they are wise because they are wise therefore if your statement is true then there exists no wise men among us and gladly I can say you are incorrect in assuming this thom thom because here before you stands the wisest of them all.

ME: Well, if a wiseman is a fool, and a fool is a fool, then you are still a fool Derek. lol.

-------

Is the quote by Shakespeare "The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself a fool." contradicted, or have I been fooled? I believe that a wise person knows how stupid he and humanity are, and a fool thinks he is better than he actually is.

Well, are there even wisemen if everyone is a fool? I am confused, I must be a fool. lol

haha, I love semi-philisophical discussions, they're fun to think about :p

I would tend to agree with your end that a wise man does not know (or will not admit) that he is

Derek is one of my friends from school. And he is always like that. He thinks he is the Fuehrer and will take over the earth one day and instate certain friends into governing positions of the world.

Not sure if he totaly believes himself, but he does think he's better than everyone else. I think he's a total fool.

See, I think I am at least intelligent, if not wise. But wisdom is gained from knowledge, and I have a lot of knowledge. But, thinking I am wise shows I am a fool. If I recognize that I think I am wise, and therefore a fool, then I recognize that I am a fool. If I recognize that I am a fool, then I am wise. This reapeats itself.

Wisdom comes mainly from the application of knowledge, not knowledge in its pure form. The difference between wisdom and knowledge is like the difference between theory and practice.

Well, knowledge of how to apply knowledge, that could be construed as wisdom, yes?
