Jacob Davenport ยป 20 Reasons Not to Have Children and 10 Reasons to Have Children

Personally, I think my line has gone FAR enough =p

I think my brother said he would, and good for him, but yeah...marriage and children...you all know how I feel about that :)

Do I want kids? Yes. Do I want them anytime soon? No.

And being that I am recently single, I don't really have any choice in the matter anymore. But even when I was still with my ex we had no intention of having kids for several years. Kids are a big responsibility and require full attention, I think to many people dive headlong into having kids when they are not prepared for the challenges parenthood entails.

I don't think I'd make a great parent. I'd probably be a better parent than my parents were - I'm older now than they were when they had me and I've been smarter than them for a long time now - but do I really have the temperament? Interacting with people, in general, tires me out. Which isn't the same as saying that I completely avoid social contact, but if I'm going to spend the energy... I want to be getting something fulfilling out of it. Getting home from work, having spent energy on people all day....

This is not an inaccurate take:

If you're not going to have time for your kids, if they're going to be a burden. I think the decent thing to do is not to have them. Not everyone ought to have kids. The world certainly doesn't need another mouth to feed.

I like the cartoon =p

That was especially true of my sociology and english teachers. Every semester, every class, they always did this stupid "pick someone, introduce yourself, then introduce them to the class" bullshit. What is this, kindergarten? But the worst part was when the sociology teacher asked people how their day was...I really hate that. I actually saw her about a month after I dropped her class and she asked me...it's like, "Why do you wanna know?" And she also wondered why I didn't make eye-contact with her. Though, to be fair, a lot of people have asked me that throughout my life >_>

If I want to get to know someone, I'll let them know (this almost never happens), but if I don't, then it just makes for awkward small talk and I find myself looking around and waiting for the conversation to end.

Is it wrong that I want kids to do psychological tests on (only in theory)? There are so many things about developmental psychology that I want to know, but are illegal to do. =p

I'd never do anything like that, but dammit I need to know!

Things like the toll extreme isolation has (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genie_(feral_child)), things like how to create a serial killer mentality, the Monster Study, etc.

I'd never condone the actions of doing those things, but my mind is curious. =p

Well, there are actually quite a few journals out there about those things. Studies related to feral children, the effects of keeping a chimp alone and not knowing the difference between its mother and something else...I don't quite remember what the point was.

You may have heard of these, they're quite interesting:

Stanford prison experiment - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Milgram experiment - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

No, I'm far too selfish.

But, I can't help but wonder what the little troublemaking brats would look like.
