So, it seems that now former pickpockets in London have decided to give up their days of stealing money, and have decided to put money into unsuspecting people's wallets and pocketbooks.

We now take you to Yahoo News with more on this detail ;) (always wanted to say something like that)

LONDON (Reuters) – Visitors to London always have to be on the look out for pickpockets, but now there's another, more positive phenomenon on the loose -- putpockets. Aware that people are suffering in the economic crisis, 20 former pickpockets have turned over a new leaf and are now trawling London's tourist sites slipping money back into unsuspecting pockets. Anything from 5 pounds ($8) to 20 pound notes is being surreptitiously deposited in unguarded pockets or open handbags in Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden and other busy spots. The initiative, which runs until the end of August in London before being rolled out countrywide, is being funded by a broadbrand provider, which says it wants to brighten up people's lives in unusual ways. "It feels good to give something back for a change -- and Britons certainly need it in the current economic climate," said Chris Fitch, a former pickpocket who now heads TalkTalk's putpocketing initiative. "Every time I put money back in someone's pocket, I feel less guilty about the fact I spent many years taking it out." London's police have been briefed about the plan, which will see at least 100,000 pounds given away. (Reporting by Luke Baker; Editing by Kate Kelland)

Now this is something new. I wonder how many freeloaders will just wait for the opportunity to come by. I'll bet they'll just be sitting there waiting for the smallest bit of free cash. _ROFL1.gif

I wonder if they do it the same way they'd pick a pocket? Distract, pick/put, get away?

Just don't get caught. If someone finds you with your hand in their pocket there's no way they're going to believe you were putting money in rather than trying to take it out.

Yup I heard of it, this afternoon. The newspaper mentioned "zakkenvullers" (pocketfillers) as a change to "zakkenrollers" (pocketrollers / rolling aka pickpockets). Though in Dutch pocketfillers is actually the term for people that stuff their pockets with questionable bonusses or illegal money (ea "those bloody CO's are all a bunch of pocket fillers").

Anyway, I guess it beats pick pocketing. I wonder if there is a note they leave aswell so that you know where the money came from, or incase you catch a person filling your pocket...

If I was a putpocket, I'd put my wallet in their pocket and call the police. Then sue for an exorbitant amount of money. Repeat the process on a much larger scale with your newfound wealth.

I recall a similar story about someone doing this, but to homeless people when they slept, so not entirely the same thing.

I however do it all the time on Oblivion >_>
