Ok before I start I just wish state that I legally obtained this game. I'm not trying to find some way around activating the game. I recently got a new computer so I'm finally able to play all the game that have come out over the last year or two that I missed out on.... Half Life 2, BF2, FEAR, Quake 4, etc. So, having spent so much money on my PC I'm a little short when it comes to game funds. Luckily though my good friend who use to be a heavy gamer doesnt really play much anymore. Rather then go out and buy a new copy of Half Life 2, I figured I could just buy his copy from him. I did so and gave him $20. Perfectly legal second hand exchange. I take the game home, install and start to register my copy and enter my cd-key. However Steam then informs me that since this copy has already been registered with my friend's name that I am unable to play. My question basically is, is there anyway for me to change that? For me to be able to have him deactivate his account or something, or am I stuck using his?

ask your friend for his username and password then log in
OK, I just got back from class and I called him and did that and I was able to log in, but I still have a question. Will I always have to use his account and nickname and never to be able to create one of my own? I know it really doesn't matter but I'd like to go ahead and know what's up with that and get it out of the way so I don't have to have it in the back of my head.

I know It's "gay" but it is for security reasons as well. Suppose someone hi-jacked your account and changed the username and email?
