Hahahahaha! You quoted yourself! Never do that. Umm, I'm not sure about you running Far Cry at high with that. You probably will. I have a 9600XT which runs some at high and some at medium so you'll probably have no worries.

I've just bought another 512 mb of RAM which should arrive tomorrow which will give me a total of 1024mb of Pc3200 RAM. Would this allow me to raise the model or texture detail because all the other graphics options are up at full except model, texture and water detail which is at medium and i get around 45 fps?

It would help with the loading and may give you a few more FPS, but you would gain alot more from having a new graphics card.

Well Squirrel they said that if u want perfect performance with Doom 3 u should have 2 Gigs of ram.... So that little Add on ya did with ur 256 stick is great, it will boost performance in doom 3 and far cry,

But it also really depends on ur G-card and ur CPU, because D3 is VERY demanding on those if u want it at high quality, or "ultra"

on my old system.... i played half life 2 at medium with 25fps... and played doom 3 at low with 14fps..... but with this system... half life 2 at max with 50 - 60 and doom 3 at high with 50 - 60 i was gonna cry lol..

i have no real point so im gonna stop now.... and u guys have a Happy New Year

Yea you should be able to run your hl2 on high models and textures. Because when i had 512 MB of RAM my settings were reccomended at medium, then when i added 256 MB they are now reccomended at high, so i have a total of 768 MB of RAM and will soon go to 1 gig.

When I recieved another 512mb of RAM the stress test now recommends that I should put the graphics up to full and when I did it plays just as smooth as it did before except it recommends that the water should be a the lowest setting which to me looks better than it does at full because at full that water looks blocky.

The important thing is to get GOOD ram, Its no good having something crap like 1gb of PC2100 DDR133 (for instance). 512mb of High speed PC3200 DDR400 will perform alot better than that, so just be sure you know what you're going.

And dont forget to get branded ram. Generic stuff is kind of sucky.

wtf are u talking about. In my computer i have to get PC2100, i can't just go out and get any type of RAM i want. I just bought some Centon brand RAM down an COMPUSA and it is working fine...when i get my next 512 MB stick should i stick with the same brand for compatibility?
