:smokin: Niks guide to better gaming:smokin: Hey guys. Looking foward to that new game coming out soon? What is it? HL2, Halo 2? Or even a game that is out at the moment, ie Doom3? This thread is a guide to getting the maximal enjoyment out of your games based on my personal experiance with games. I try hard to get immersed in games, weather it be Hype, or actual gameplay. Usually this happens for me. I have now learnt that hype is quite bad sometimes as it ruins your gaming experiance (sometimes) These are some of the steps i take or have devised to make sure i ALWAYS get the maximal gaming experiance. (1) Dont get too wraped up in hype, bad idea. You fill your head with expectations and stuff you think will happen, when you find out none of the stuff you thought about or hoped for was in the game, it makes it a worse experiance or a let down. (2) Sound. I have recently discovered the beauty of sound. Haha, i know everybody will be like, well duuh  . But seriously, a hundred bucks or so on surround sound and i promise you wont be disapointed :agreed: Just before Doom3 came out i rigged up my hifi stereo (with the help of azz) to my PC and usually cranked the sound up REALLY loud each time i played. This just made Doom3. If it hadnt been for the excelent sound, i would just say doom3 is another FPS (Although a scary one) with fancy ass graphics. (3) Period of play. You should try playing MOST of the game as long as you can when you get it. Ill give some examples. What i mean by this is that you shouldnt really try and play the game in short intervals. I dont mean rushing the game all at once, but seriously if you first get the game, save it till the weekend when you can give it a really good long bashing (Uhhh, sounds dirty haha) EG: You buy Doom3, install it, play for 10 minutes then go to work. Come home, play it again for another hour, go to bed, get up in the morning and play it for another hour. BAD IDEA! You should try and play it, or quite a lot of it in a big burst, you will be able to hold the story together well, and still have a lot of good images in your head after you stop playing. (This is from personaly experiance, something that made farcry and doom3 crappier for me) (4) Meet system req's. If you turn the box over on a game your thinking of purchasing, you shouldn't really pay attention to the min specs. Most rigs wont be able to play a game if they only just meet the min system req's. You should really meet or exceed the required specs. The min specs are there just so people are sucked into buying the game pretty much. (5) Uprgrading for one particular game is a stupid idea. You dont want to go and spend a lot of $$$ on upgrading for just one game. When you play it sure the games great, its fun, but is it really worth spending all that dosh upgrading? Upgrade for a range of different games, then your spending your money wisely, upgrading for a lot of games and maximising your performance all in one. (6) Your RAM is an essential tool. Most people think that having the best graphics card on the market is the best you can do. Not always the case. Whats the point in having a state of the art card, if you have no RAM to give everything boot? Id personally suggest upgrading to 1gig. I can run Doom3 on High with 1gig RAM, 2.4processor, 9800 Pro. CPU is also very vital, but much harder to upgrade unless your into overclocking. (7) Dont rush the game! Play through the game to your best ability but YOUR preference. If you get enjoyment out of a game by rushing through it, by all means go ahead. Personally, (Along with a lot of other gamers) i like to take my time playing a game, and these days testing out all the physics rag dolls etc. (8) Optimal game options or prefernces. You should do a bit of research on the system specs (According to other gamers that know their shit) about what you should run the game at in comparison to your rig for optimal performance. EG: I have... P4 2.66 GHz Cpu 1024 DDR PC2700 RAM Radeon 9800 Pro 128 Excalibur IceQ 40 Gig HDD I COULD run Doom3 on high if i want to, and i can as i have done it, but sometimes the graphics will become choppy or crapped up so i run it on medium at 1024 x 768 for optimal performance. Again, people on forums etc are the best source for this sort of thing, as they have experianced things like this themselves. (9) The room you play in. I dont know if this has ever effected any 1 else, but i like to have the curtains closed, lights off and playing at night time to make it the best playing time. Suit it to yourself when you play. Thats about all i can think of for now, there are lots more things that can ensure you have a majic gaming experiance, but i cant remember them all right now. Everyone feel free to post your opinions or what you feel makes gaming much better for you. (PS:!) These guidleines are my own personal prefernce which help me to experience better gameplay. This does not nessacarily mean it will be better for you but it may help. Dont burn me, cheers guys, hope it helps, Nik.

i think me (and alot of the people i know) lost our hype for hl2... been delayed to much...thers games with similar/better graphics already and it's not all graphics for me... my order is gameplay, sound, animation/graphics.

i actually think the delaying was for the best....think about it.....at the time everybody was talkin about hl2 and over hyping it. although its been a long wait its been enough time for every1 to calm down and stop worrying about it. also the game would have been a flop had it been released back then. but for me its gameplay graphics then sound

I think slash man is wrong. Since they over delayed it people will be more hyped up about it. So now people will be dissappointed (Unless they are Hard core HL2 fans which I sure am).

i agree the intensity and desire will be more pent up. since they havent told us much about what theyve been doing, people dont have much material to build up their wild expectations. All we have are the video clips and some vague statements. personally, i expect it to have the basic set of goodies that most shooters have now: 1) a great physics engine 2) decent ai ( i am sure in this section, valve is gonna pull out all the stops) 3) next generation graphics ( at least as good as doom3 and farcry tho it might not be as "flashy or shiny") furthermore theres the extra mile that made valve famous which will show up again: innovative gameplay, new technology like voice sync animation, a good storyline...

Yea I nkow but the vague stuff can be seen by some people as alot because since it is vague you see it as oh it won't happen some one else sees it as OMG I CAN'T WAIT TO DO THAT IN THE GAME!!1.
