OK, guys, here's the crap. I have a 9800XT so I'm supposed to get HL2 for free(when?). So impatient as I was, I picked up a retail version of HL2 the other day because I just don't feel like waiting anymore. Got everything ready to go, and started to install. Disc1, Disc2, Disc3, Disc.....Disc4 has a scuff from the manufacterer. I get almost to the end of Disc4, and setup ends prematurely and is unable to read the HL24.CAB file on Disc4. Am I the only one that got stuck with this bullcrap? I'm gonna go back to the retail outlet tomorrow with it to try to exchange it. Wish me luck, cause if they say no or if they say I have to go to Valve, I'm gonna beat the crap outta the salesman with the Half Life 2 box. Three words. This F***ing Sucks!
they should exchance it, i had a buddy that got the retail the day after it came out and after he got it all installed it asked fer the cd key and it told him it was already in use so he went back the next day and with to complaints they exchanged it fer another 1, hope ur as lucky but im sure ya will be, if not im sure theres a ton of others that would love 2 go with ya
OK, everything's cool, now. Something I didn't know, Steam had to be updated(even though it's brand new) in order to even get the game installed. That was causing part of the problem, but the Disc 4 was definately defective. The store exchanged it though.
right on, congrats, enjoy

I got an 9800xt to. It came with a card with a serial number on it. If your's didnt i'd suggest you'd go back to where you bought that card. I could download steam, make an account, far before hl2 got released. I could play hl1 and cs :p . When hl2 got released i could play it right away. I think i'm one of the first to play it. But after on hour of player i kept getting kicked out cause all the servers were overloaded.
Yeah, I could've downloaded it too, but didn't want to. I was told by ATI that I would receive a hard copy of HL2 in the mail, sometime after it was released. I found that steam version of half life and opposing force, etc, to be useless since I already have those games. Only now, you have to log into steam to play them. No thanks, I'll play my old versions with my 82MB 11.10 patch. Anyhow, I've already completed HL2 on my retail version I bought. Good game, but it's time to move on to something else. Just think, I waited a year to play this game, and it took me a week to finish it.
...and then the mods come in hahaha. Try substance mod. Its fun, quite difficuled. It has some bugs though, i dont know if more people noticed.
same thing happened to me, it really sucked balls. I dont understand why walmart has ps2 games behind glass and pc games on the shelves where cd keys get taken out of the box!!!
woa that's weird. Here they just put empty boxes lol. Just the cdcover. When you actually buy it, they put the empty box back and give you a new one in plastic and all.
