Oh my god! , geesh, I have just bought half life 2! I started playing it and everything went fine untill... HL2 Crashed and my PC restarted.... What the hell?? So I decided to try the level again, and again at the same point HL2 crashed and my pc restarted... I tried it another time but the same... Does anyone know why this is? Has anyone else experienced the same problem? Is there coming a patch to fix it? Any infowould be aprecciated thanks!
I think i may have a solution did you Download new graphics driver if you did reinstall the old drivers and then try and play again i had this problem i think it may work post if it does
Ahh yes, Steam mentioned that I needed a new graphic driver, (I have a geforce 4 mx 440) But the Download links at the nvidia site dont seem to work ... Ill just try it again though!
... Geesh, I've downloaded, the "New" drivers... Right, Half life 2 runs even worse then before, it still says i need new drivers and my other games wont work, because of some openGL error... Could you give me the exact link where i need to download my drivers, for A geforce 4 MX 440? I tried but failed, or downloaded and installed the wrong one

Uninstall your video driver Reboot Reinstall the new Detonator drivers here 66.93 http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_66.93
lol theres no problems with half life 2 all these peeps saying they have problems they are just problems with your pc.
AMD athlon 2200XP overclocked to AMD athlon 2400XP Geforce 5200XP 512MB Ram 60GB hard drive Cooler master bad boy colling system Runs half life 2 on highest as if it was quake 1! Great
that is an interesting assertion, CurIous. i have been building computers (not pc's) for more than 10 years. my personal system, based on a server platform, used to be so reliable that i once went 9 months without any restarts, to say nothing of crashes. sure, sometimes a software component crashed (a game, almost always) but my system never went down, nor did i encounter any memory leak or process instability that would require me to restart (which takes more than 6 minutes, because of the redundant scsi scanning and memory scrubbing operations that i run to ensure a clean boot).
two things now cause a hard lock of my system. one of these things is the graphics engine of halflife2. before this game, i had never experienced an nmi parity error. i have traced this problem to an implementation of directx that is common with some video renderers and compressors/decompressors - hence the other instance, wmp. i have yet to find a fix.
but, then again, what do i know? i'm certain that any software released by VALVe is utterly perfect upon initial release, and as such, would never require any sort of upgrade or bugfix. we all know how great steam is...
and since this is obviously a problem with my "pc" (a device which i have not owned since 1999), perhaps you can fix it for me? i'd be glad to send you the kernel dump and a sample of the software-corrupted cache. it might take a while, because i'd need to find a local server that would support a simultaneous dual connection with my two old USR Couriers. without duplexing them, it would take even longer, of course.
no software or hardware is sacrosanct in the battle against bugs.

i kinda agree. I'm allways asked to fix problems for people, and 90% of the time it turns out that it's their own fault.
