I don't think Kleiner was even working with Gordon or Barney at the time of Black Mesa.

Eli, Dr Kleiner and Judith Mossman are all in Black Mesa at the time of 'the incident', but you never actually see them. It is assumed they escaped (obviously!). Someone who didn't escape was Eli's wife.

I assumed the two scientists you meet right after the resonance cascade were kliener and eli. i assumed that if i ever found a black guy in black mesa with a hurt leg that was eli, but i never found him. anyone else have any luck with that?

Eli was the first living guy you see after leaving the chamber. He said you have to get to the surface to find help. Then 20 years later you meet him again in HL2.

Dr Kliener?

Remember in "like merc said" in HL1, after the explosion, they are both helping eachother and they tell you to go to the surface.. and said fellow scientists will be glad to help... both Eli, and Kliener are there..

they even said that last time they seen you was at that time..

and MERC it isnt 20 years, its an "unknown" amount of years

"Half-Life canon dictates that Gordon Freeman either agreed or was not given a real option in regards to the G-Man's ultimatum. Half-Life 2 picks up the story with the G-Man taking Freeman out of stasis and inserting him on a train en-route to City 17 an indeterminate number of years after the Black Mesa Incident"
