A City in Ruins – C-17 Resistance
HL2 fan fiction by Urbanebula
Captain Lewis was an English soldier who was respected by millions of people around the world after he led nearly two hundred civilians out of City 17. He and his men had fought against masses of Combine forces in order to rescue as many civilians as they could. This story was written using the contents of his wartime diary.
“This is my story. It is a story dedicated to the brave civilian resistance fighters who stood up against the infamous Combine. It is a story for the soldiers who fought and died along side me. This is my story for my brothers.” ---Taken from Capt. Lewis’ journal---
In the first few days of the event, when the news started blasting in through the TV and radio, nobody had ever heard of City 17, the Combine or the Citadel. These words meant very little to anyone.
City 17 was a city located in Eastern Europe and was known only by its residents and surrounding villages. The reason? City 17 was a prison city. Guards patrolled the streets night and day, scanners searched everybody for threatening behaviour and a large building called the citadel towered above the skyline for the entire city to see. It was a truly unbelievable place.
Of course resistance was inevitable. The first campaign for the City 17 citizens was to get in touch with the American government, who were also unaware of this metropolis. They accomplished this mission using surprise tactics and stealth. The combine didn’t know what hit them. The resistance took over an under protected radio station on the outskirts of the city. Needless to say the combine where immediately mobilized to cope with this threat. The squad was eliminated shortly after the transmission was made but the government had already started to deal with the problem. The plan was laid out in three sections.
Operation Silent Fury: Two of the best government agents Agent GF and Agent BC were sent to City 17 undercover. Scientists were also moved in afterwards.
Operation Dark Cloud: Spy planes scanned the city and Combine key points were bombarded by the air force.
Operation Guardian Angel: The British Army was informed of the increasing threat and troops were moved into the city to pull out any survivors.
Of course during all of the resistance activity something very peculiar had started happening. The Citadel had begun to move northbound into the centre of the city, smashing through anything in its path with its huge teeth. Smoke poured from its top as it churned and ground up the ground that it passed over. It was a tremendous sight from the distant countryside locations.
The trucks had pulled up in a nearby village. Captain Lewis was standing at the end of the road. The country spread across the horizon at either side until meeting the outskirts of the city. Gunfire could be heard across the open land. Through his binoculars Lewis could see muzzle flash coming from every window. The resistance had definitely kicked up a fuss with the combine. He turned back to his squad who were kneeling in front of the truck. His force was made up of eight other men. Privates Keen and Morgan were support gunners both armed with L86 light support weapons. The five infantry soldiers were privates Rowe, Smith, Bennett, Phillips, with the radio, and Sergeant Cooper who were all armed with standard issue SA 80s. Finally the squads sniper private Miller carried a L96 British sniper rifle.
“Ok lads.” He said, “This is it. 2nd Company Omega will come in from the south so check your fire. Keep it clean and professional and we should be in and out in no time.”
“Captain,” called Phillips, “Base called in and says Omega Company is in position.”
“Ok, I guess I should give you the outline of the plan. As you well know our orders are to clean out the city. Kill any combine on sight! Any rebels that you see must be assisted to safety. Now remember they are civilians so they won’t be fit to military standard. Stick with them until they are secure and don’t leave anyone behind. Lets move. Board the truck and gear up.”
The men hopped up into the rear of truck and Lewis climbed into the drivers seat, sergeant cooper into the passenger’s.
“You think we can pull this off sir?” Cooper asked. His hands were shaking.
“Don’t wind yourself up Cooper. It’ll affect your aim if you get nervous.”
The truck moved off onto the country road. The poor suspensions made the men feel every bump in the road. Bennett was the next one whose nerves kicked in. He leant forward and vomited onto the metal floor. He leant back and wiped his lips.
“Sorry,” he muttered to the others “I can’t help it.”
“Don’t worry. It’s fine.” Phillips was sitting next to him and patted him on the back. “We’ll be fine.”
“Two minutes.” Cooper’s voice echoed from the cab. “Get ready!”
To be continued…
Wow thats very good Urban! Finish when you can thats awesome!
Chapter 1 coming up soon...
In the meantime feel free to post your own fiction here.
very good story, this may be a newby questions but is that VERY tall black combine building a main base? and why does it ''eat'' the city :)
See my 'Large black tower!?' thread. People in there said it was called the Citaldel and that it moves through City 17 smashing buildings with its front 'teeth'. Almost as if it is consuming the City. ;)
This 'Fan fiction' Urban is like VALVe's official website, you fail to update it ^^ and for the first time ever I can say your "Valving" us all by not posting your talents.
