Not only was the animation system on Alyx improved, but it looked like they changed here with newer textures.

...okay @ Atomizer Isn't self-shadowing a name for the system which is already rpesent in Source games and allows for realisticly shadowed model in every place where the light from a light source doesn't reach it's surface? What is being added in Episode Two is a full shadowing system for every object in the game that can change it's position as it seems.

I find Halo sound is something I call "soft sound". Like gun noises don't have the hard feel you would expect them too. Like in Call of Duty, the sound isn't necessarily 100% pleasent because gun sounds aren't made to sound good. Half-Life 2 has some soft sounds but Halo is a little too soft. And I'll agree that the games are good (Halo 3 looks terrible visually) but the Halo series has been overrated because a deep voiced dude kills people, with a deep monotone attitude. Gordon can top that though, he doesn't say two words, or one word. :D :D :D

Thanks to justincase3 for digging up this thread. After a lecture of a couple articles it seems like I was wrong in case of self-shadowing, so apologises to Atomizer.

yeah but if you played the entire campaign on Earth it wouldn't be called Halo would it now? also i think halo 3 will win because of online multi-player think about it halo 2 was top for a looooooong time and everyone who played halo 2 and loved it will probably get a 360 and halo 3 but i still think the HL series is good but i think Halo is better:D

I think Half-Life stands above halo for various reasons, HL2 has far more depth in terms of gameplay than halo & it has a much more interesting story. Who could ever think up firstly The Black Mesa test chamber incident, Xenians take over Black Mesa & Resonance Cascade occurs, Dr. Gordon Freeman has to deal with both HECU Gov't soldiers & Xenian lifeforms, Dr. Gordon Freeman make's his journey to the border world Xen. Gordon has to fight Nihilanth & kill him, G-man & Gordon meet & he offers Gordon a job, Portal storms all around earth occurs, With the confusion of the Resonance Cascade & the Portal storms...the Combine prepare for rapid deployment of their synth creature's & prepare to invade Earth a new dimention to conquer, 7 Hours War occurs & Earth's forces are literally distroyed & so is a good % of the population. Dr. Wallace Breen, a former black mesa administrator, negotiates a peace & a surrender in exchange for teleportation technology & among other things, Dr. Breen serves as Humanity's representative for the Combine. Former Black Mesa Scientists Dr. Isaac Kliener, Dr. Eli Vance, & Dr. Vance's daughter Alyx are in hiding & are rebeling against the Combine rule on Earth.

SteelSabre;3076808As I've mentioned. Halo gets old. It becomes something else thrown in the pile of games you have. Plus..It is a console game. PC games tend to blow away console games in the long run. For one a controller is shit for an FPS, while a mouse is like the ownage for FPS. A controller ..IMO.. is only good for sports, 3rd person games. Half life just has inifinite abilities. It never ends and there are many other ways, things to find, and mods.

Another thing. Mods. Mods make a game better. While Halo is on Xbox...it just gets boring after playing it over and over. The online was horrid for Halo 2 and the story is just bad. Im guessing Halo 3 cant be much different. I'm not saying halo is bad, I'll play the campaign once or twice. I'll have my fun, then toss it aside. Ive had more fun with Hitman: Blood money. I play that game more than halo. But I strongly think that Halo is much less diverse, more boring, and lamer than HL.

Now. We took about enemies. HALO HAS THE DAMN SAME ENEMIES IN EVERY GAME. Jackals, elites, and whatever the hell else is in it. HL at least adds new stuff each game. New guns, characters.. Bungie tends to change very little and add mostly nothing. Well Halo 3 will be on 360. Although I don't think that will change much. Saying as I own one and haven't played it more than 5 hours. Thats what I need to say.

Oh dur. New HL= New CSS and DoD. Same game only different. Right there shows that Steam and Valve sell out more. :) See Valve and Steam focus online. Only differently. Although I believe online play doesn't make a game.

And the noob that called me a fan boy: I highly doubt that you are 18. Seeing as I am 14 and ..you see my point.

too true

halo only has basic multiplayer, while half-life has all these awesome mods like cs and DOD

Multiplayer, as some may argue, is not about everything. This especially applies to games with Single Player campaings. Did I spell campaigns right? Half-Life 2 does have multiplayer, though it is not known for it, and the multiplayer is practically a free downloadable game on it's own. If I am right all you need is a Half-Life 2 game, like Episode One, or something like that, and you get Deathmatch. Halo 2 is a very famous game for both Sinlge and Multiplayer. Though Half-Life 2 is known for the Single Player Campaign, and if "Deathmatch" is not enough to win Valve has many other multiplayer games that can be thought up when thinking Half-Life 2: Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, and maybe even Ostfront Red Orchestra. The three of those games are very famous, Counter Strike calls on players who play Halo online, Day of Defeat I do not know who it calls but it does call a decent amount of people. And Ostfront Red Orchestra calls on the most mature and patient gamers because of the high difficulty rates and aiming system. That game calls on lots of teamwork. Halo on the other hand is known for it's multiplayer, but when you look at it, Halo online is for the more punk abreviation gamers. Sure a serious gamer can play Halo online, but you will probably find the crazy abbreviation crazy gamers a lot more often. Meaning that Halo online, is a game that may not matter how well it runs or anything like that, it becomes top on the list because of popularity. Like I said before, Halo has been so highly rated because of just popularity and the more abbreviated crazy gamers will not really care much about the different aspects of the game, they just want to get online, be a noob, own somebody and then say, "U NOOB! OWND..." This also shows why Halo is so highly rated, the gameplay. A lot of my friends who play those awesome sweet games like Gears of War play the games to just shoot things up. Same thing applies to Halo in many cases, they just want to shoot things up, and the more they shoot things up, the more fun they find the game to be. The more fun they find the game to be the begin to believe the game to be perfect in practically every way. Popularity feeds this because of discussion with people on how fun it is in that game to shoot things up. The people can actually be missing other aspects such as Graphics, Sounds, STORY. Now I am not saying everyone looks at Halo like this, but I am sure a decent amount do. I found a video online where a kid was video taping himself in a car, the kid was probably 15-17. It started out, "I'm going to talk to you about Halo because I'm the best at it." I did not watch the entire video but from that first line and the next one or two which discussed the storyline poorly. These people, who may not be you, do not really look at the game as it should be, it is just looked at in terms of "I can't wait to own." I used to be that way, I used to think only on the weapons and how fun the game is.
