I looked for an old thread with this topic, but came up with nothing after multiple searches.

Where did the Hazard suit go bewteen Half-life 1 and 2? Post-Nihilanth, the Gman tells Gordon that he can "keep the suit, I think you've earned it."... So why do you have to hop into the hazard suit again in Half-life 2, and what was Gordon wearing before he got to Kleiner's Lab? (If a common civilian 'uniform'... does the Gman control what Gordon wears, too?)

The first one (HL1) was a mark IV HEV suit, and the one in HL2 is a mark V. As for how gordon got out of his HEV suit and into his "civvies" thats a question of what the G-man did to gordon during the ten years he was in stasis.

Aw how cute, G-man tucked gordon in, woke him for school, and dressed him good.:lookaround:

Just to be picky, it was almost 20 years.

I agree that the G-Man probably had something to do with it.

This brings up another question. In half-life, Gordon takes the last hazard suit in the entry area of the lab area; plus all of the hazard suits in the final lambda area were already gone (found on dead scientists in Xen.) Where did Kleiner get another suit to work with? (Assuming Kleiner was working in Gordon / Eli's area, which is depicted in the photo-lever on Kleiner's wall.)

Additionally, why doesn't Gordon's hazard suit have a helmet, as the dead scientists in Xen?

Kleiner says that it's the same suit. Have you all got a bit blined on the Half-Life 2 beginning? You are being teleported into train arriving at City 17, overwatch haven't got you in it's registery, Barney happens to be there and rescues you from ride to Nova Prospekt. Everyone seems to be waiting for you and is not surprsied by you appearing all of the sudden. The question is not what G-Man did with the suit, but why everybody seems to be prepared for your arrival, together with having suit prepared. And I suspect that two other suits in Half-Life beginning were taken by two women scientist from Decey console expansion pack. As for the final teleporter, there's one HEV suit unoccupied. As for Xen, well, I'm sure scientists didn't wanted to risk not wearing helmets in alien dimension.

I like the point about the helmet. If the Combine are so intent on killing Gordan Freeman, why do they just not shoot the head? Sure the suit protects him, but if they shot his head he wouldn't exactly be destroying the Citadel...

Gordon could be always putting in during combat or stuff like that. Well, it has to be admited in the end in this case, that it's a game and need to perform special action of putting helmet on and off for battles wouldn't realy work for everybody.

And if his suit didn't have a helmet, what did he breathe on Xen?
