I have, by some luck (some might say) come into possesion of a radeon 9600xt for free. So I replace my geforce 4ti200. When I go on the specialists (that's a half life mod), the picture seems too stretched, and the fonts look much bigger. Resolutions the same, and there's no other things that I can think of.

So...I thought I'd throw this one up to the community

Is there an ATI lover here who can suggest a solution, or could it be that I prefer my ti200!

Its your refresh rate. What resolution are you running your desktop at and the game itself? Its more than likely the specs of your monitor and the game itself not being able to handle the current refresh rate. There are certain games that I can only play at 1280x960/1024 if I drop the refresh rate to 75Hz and others play fine at that res at a much higher rate. Experiment with the game options to find one that looks good. If that doesnt help you may have to try adjusting your actual machine settings. In this case I would also recommend that you make sure every trace of the Nvidia drivers has been removed from your system as well. Ati cards get really cranky sometimes when there are old Nvidial drivers still present.

Well firstly, stolen cards may be broken :P

Otherwise, just try messing around with drivers/ settings etc.

ha ha , no it's not stolen! My brother bought it, but he discovered his pc couldn't handle it - so he gave it to me. As far I'm aware, the card itself is fine, and the problem was with his mobo.

Well...I tried looking at the refresh rate, but it was only 75, still I lowered it to 60. Still streched, and the card seemed a bit glitchy. I'm going to try and get any drivers off and start afresh.

Can you recommend some software to do this?

Did you try raising the refresh rate? Just a thought.

Theres a freeware program called "driver cleaner" that is specifically for removing old ATI and Nvidia drivers here: http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/14/4/14-4-75.shtml

Ive heard alot of good things about it but have never actually tried it myself since I usually re-install my OS whenever I do a major harware upgrade.

The best i can think of Brook are the following....

(1) Get latest catalyst update (2) Higher refresh rate like everyone else says (3) Try putting a different AA Antial alisgning rate in (Prolly wont do anything) Im not much of a geek so thats about the best i can offer sorry brook :(

Well I've tried lower, higher, reinstallation etc etc. Looks like Azz may be correct - thankfully it runs everything else fine!
