I think it'll be fine, even for the high detail settings, only problems could be caused by HDR, if it'd be used ion some scenes to extreme extend. Although now I have Athlon 64 4800+, 2 GB RAM and GeForce 7900GT I remember that all Source games played compleately fine on high settings back then with GeForce 6600 GT, 1 GB RAM and Athlon 3000+.

It would play probally play with everthing enabled at 1024 res. I just upgraded from the 7600 GT to a 7950 GTX and Epsiode 1 plays soo much better at 1600x1200... though the diffrance wasn't great at 1024x768 even with HDR and AA enabled.

I'll probably play OK on it. Dark Messiah: Might & Magic... a Source game, didn't run the greatest, thats because I had every thing on high settings. Not max but high. I have a bad feeling if its true that they're will be as it is rumored to be "Better than crysis shaders" than it will be worse than dark messiah. D: In EP1, my system runs pretty decent on max settings. I have: AMD 64 +3200 2.0GHZ CPU XFX GeForce 6800XT 256mb APG 4x/8x GPU 1GiG ram

I doubt that they'll use DX 10 in Epsiode 2. They'll most likely add DX 9c support. Youre CPU and RAM are still okay I have simlar set up like yours expet I have a P4 and I got a Geforce 7950 and I could easily play any source game at 1600x1200.

Switching to DirectX10 from 9, while keeping the shader usage on the same level as before in HL2 games, would only increase the perforamnce. It's raising in new games not because of more demanding technologie, but because of more and more extensive use of it, while it's getting better and better. Still yes, I doubt that Episode Two will have Dx10 support, it's too soon for that. As for Dark Messiah, I think that main performance eater in the game are high resolution textures, as in comparison to Half-Life 2, they're not brilliant (just very good:P), but almost always way higher resolution.

I'm sure they'll add ps 3.0 support for Epsiode 2. Mabey will see DX 10 in EP 3. Valve should seriously use parllax mapping in Epsiode 2 I've seen it in a few mods and it looks very nice and isn't very deamding.

Well they din't annonce any requirements but I'm guessing you'll need 512 megs of ram a 2 GHz P4 or a Althon XP and a Geforce FX or a Radeon 9200 video card to beable to play the game.

Tbh I don't think we'll ever see a use made from SM 3 in Source Engine. It seems like Valve has achived the most realistic graphics even with limited use of SM 2, while the 3rd edition's purpose is mainly the increased perforamnce as it allows to do around 64000 lines of code in one calculation while it's predecesor for around 8200 (don't pick me on these numbers, I read about it ages ago). As we can see in all Valve's present games, they're using shaders to a rather small extend, hence no need to upgrade to the newer system, as it's already performing quite well. And before you'll say the more normal and bumb maps the better, first look at Doom 3, F.E.A.R. or Oblivion. As for paralax mapping, it seems like they have used it in Portal, look at the metal cobbel on the walls on the trailer. While some parts are rather obviously rendered, some others would seem to be a polygon waste if each square would be so detailed.
