I'm not an avid gamer, but I'm considering buying halflife 2 for some entertainment. I'll mostly be using my laptop and occasionally my desktop PC to play the game. Is a mouse and keyboard what most people generally use or is a joystick the best for gameplay?
Mouse and keyboard. Playing a FPS with a joystick can be very frustrating, since aiming is all but impossible due to the fact that the joystick wants to return to its idle position unless you're holding it, making precise aiming a joke.
yeah i just cant see myself playing with a joystick (for an fps anyway) trust me u want a mouse
Welcome to the forums, BTW.
:agreed the Joystick is good for flight simulators and...flight...simulators. Yes!
Don't forget fighting games.
The mouse.
The only FPS games that joysticks work on are old ones like Doom 1-2 and Wolfenstein 3D where you don't have to aim up or down. Other than that its too difficult.
Even those are better with a mouse. The main problem lies in the spring that makes the joystick reset it's position when idle.
Joysticks were never meant for FPS's. Throwing a grenade with a joystick is suicide, I'd say stick with the good old keyboard/mouse.
