I am playing Dark Messiah,, even though hl 2 runs on max settings dx 9, and everything turned up with over 60 fps all the time, dark messiah just does not. i have to run it on 1028x1024 because i have a 19 inch monitor. the problem is i turned model to low, textures to medium, and everything else turned off or low. and it still has the nerve to lag! its not like it looks great like that, but it still lags anyway. i am confused, hl2 ran great and cs and dod. anywaz i suspect the only way for me to get it to be smooth is to force it to dx 8. right now it is on dx9 +. pleaze help, whats the command to do that.
guys commod, i need the command to forse it into dx 8, pleaze help

But theres the staff guy who answered every problem question(Carrick) At least try there.
Here, just do this: 1. Right Click on the "Messiah" game in the games section. 2. Click Properties 3. Click the "Set Launch Options" button. 4.Put into the box either of these two without quotes: "+dxlevel 80" or "-dxlevel 80" You can also put in dxlevel 81, which has little to no preformance difference, but visually I believe it is a little better not really sure. Understand when you do this you are turning off color correction, shader detail, and HDR possiblities. You can still use Bloom lighting though, which is what HDR comes from. There are other launch options like that which can be found at www.tweakguides.com. If he does not have a Dark Messiah guide, go to the Half-Life 2 guide. That guide refers to almost anything Steam related. If this does not work I would contact pvt. Allen possibly, though he may not play or have Dark Messiah. I don't but the game is Steam related and they all work from the Steam engine if I am correct. Steam releated games normally have the same launch options and alike.
Hmm i cant do it through the launch options, when i do it in the menu it doesnt work and makes the game turn off. dark messiah can be handled with dx 8, so im not sure y it crashes for me
Why won't the launch options work correctly. Does it say why or what? Any game can probably take DX 8 today. Most games rely on DX 9 for the main level. What about 7? (note it will look really ugly possibly, so put settings high).
i got it to work on dx 8.1 it worked great in the first level of the game, looked.. stomachable i guess. just the fire spells and water and all sorts of other effects were ridiculous and glitchy looking. second level it lagged more then it did on dx 9. sigh. conclusion i need to run it on dx 9, to do that i need a new comp. i have 1gb ram g force 6600 gt oc 2.8 ghz cpu
Hmm, that's a pretty good computer, in a way I guess. What are the requirements? What settings are you using? I used to know little about settings and they help a lot. More RAM always helps, and yet your card is pretty good. Is that processor a Pentium 4? I'm asking a lot of questions, sorry about that. It's just that a lot of these things make a difference. Backround programs, system specs, AGP Aperture (makes some difference for games), drivers, and game settings. I know Dark Messiah is a heavily graphical game, I have not played it myself but I suffer from other games trying to run them in DX 9. The games I have trouble with on DX 9 are: Call of Duty 2 (I run with better graphics and performance on DX 7), Battlefield 2 (HUGE pain to run with my system your system is better than mine), Half-Life 2 (using DX 9 and sometimes 8), and others. For the moment, settings would be nice to know.
I'll help more once you get me those.
Edit: One more thing, which company made your card, e-VGA, BFG Tech, ASUS?
