First I am going to give some backround that you may end up asking. I made a mistake and bought HL2 on the Xbox thinking my PC could not run it. Silly me. Later Episode One came out and I found out it did not require Half-Life 2 to play, so I bought it. This year a few months ago I bought The Half-Life 1 Anthology and just yesterday, I bought the Half-Life 2 Holiday 2006 Collection. This includes Half-Life: Source, Half-Life: Deathmatch, Half-Life 2, HL2: Deathmatch, Counter-Strike: Source, and HL2:EO. Now my problem only occurs during Half-Life 2 and no other game. I get some problem where my ammo and Hev stats appear weird in the wrong spot of the screen and cut off. Also, I have a problem where I HAVE to put the dxlevel 90 code in the set lauch options so I can use DX 9. And I always get this thing where I have to reset my video options every time I start the game up.
Here are my PC Specs now, do not judge them just think about if it will relate to my problems: MSI K7N2 Delta Motherboard AMD Athlon XP 2400 Processor 512MB RAM 160GB Sata Hard Drive ATI Radeon 9600 Video Card Once again do not tell me I need to upgrade, I know I do. Just use this information to figure out my problem or problems.
Here are my PC settings for HL2: 1024x768 Screen Resolution Model Textures: Medium General Textures: High Shader Detail: Low Reflections: Simple Shadow Detail: Low Color Correction: Enabled HDR: Full No AA No AF (It's Bilinear)
Average framerate is around 30-60 FPS unless I am just loading a map. It drops for a little bit. Here is a screenshot to show my problem:
Thanks for all the help you give me and taking the time to read this. Also I will be at an all nighter tonight leaving around 8:30 so I will not be replying then. You can keep giving advice as much as you can, but I'm not neglecting you guys or anything. Just to let you know. And if you are wondering how I can make the game look good with good framerate: Tweakguides, and knowledge from this place in the Tech Discussion forums and the HL forums.

Tried playing with the video settings? And since you said "Don't ask about the upgrade", I'm yet wondering if you have updated your video card. If you have, try to install an older video card driver? It might fix the problem.
I have the most recent Catalysts. I did not always encounter this problem, when I first tried the demo it did not appear. And it does not happen on Episode One.
I think you should contact Valve concerning the DirectX problem. The incorrect display of the hud though has a simple source, whenever you change resolution, vertical synchronisation or any other monitor display releated settings you get that untill you won't restart the game.

i dont think its your graphics card or your computer.. its the game.. that happends to me too and my friend as well.. not everytime i play but once in a while.. i think its the game.. so dont worry about your comp.. im like 99.99% sure that its the games problem
Well, there always has to be some cause in system configuration or hardware, but yeah, then it's still actually the fault of the game's program which apparently is not scalable enough. As I've said, contact the Valve about Dx problem, and btw, are you sure that you have the newest - April 2006 edition of Dx9.0c?
I didn't make it!
Did you resize your game's resolution?Thats usually the problem. Just restart your game and it should be fixed.
Check out other posts, I suggested that earlier today.:p
Okay, I'm back from the all nighter. Yes, I have the DX 9.0c from April.
It doesn't matter werther you turn color Correction and HDR on or off in Half-Life 2 as they are not used in the game, tehy're only available for the engine.
