Some of the stuff I was attempting to describe does not just relate to the cut portions and older versions of Half-Life 2, but also the atmospheric feel that you get when looking at Half-Life 2 advertisements online, or in magazines. When I look at the box for Half-Life 2 Episode One, there is a strange feel to it. It is hard to describe, but when I look at the box you get a far different impression of what the game really holds. I thought Episode One was going to contain stuff way different then what I played through.
And that smell, that sensation, that feel, dies off when I play the game. Sure, I care about the characters in game, and the events taking place, but there is less of a feel when combat kicks in, or even simply gameplay kicks in. Look at these, you might understand. The ones I feel that atmospheric feel in most are the first few. The other ones have a feel too, but are not official, and look cool.
HL2 still rocks as it is now, but It could've been more interesting if those things were in it. I think the reason that It is not in the final HL2 anymore is because the game was Leaked a long time before the actually release, but let's not talk further about that. When I first played HL2, the fealing was great and I loved it. Nowadays (and also in 2006) there are a lot more games with better graphics, so maybe If you played it direct after the release it had a better impact.
Still the game rocks and everything is good about it. The weapons, the levels, the story (which goes deeper then some people might think) and the characters. Everything is great! And not to forget > The MODS.
I didn't make it!
The Aftermath box art look much better. The reason why they probally went with the orange background on the EP1 box is becuase teh orange is the half life color.
Yeah, I noticed that. But the orange box completely kills the feel, and not to mention the Episode Boxes will now look different. It looked like all three Episodes would follow the same basic box art principles. The place with the Episode Two box art I mentioned can be found here: http://www.vgboxart.com/browse/title/6019/
You can click on the pictures to make them larger. This guy needs to work for Valve in box art. He does a perfect job. The middle one does not necessarily fit what Valve would put on their boxes, but the left and right ones, I think Valve would take.
