Playing Doom 3 made me think. The standered of games at the current time is truely amazing. Doom3 had outstanding visuals and sound and really could be stated as a fast paced action thriller. But this is not enough. There are many of these generes. I have been looking at all the videos and screenshots and articles related to HL2 and i feel this game is at an amazing level. The character interaction and general gameplay experience of hl2, from what i have seen, puts gaming at a completly different level. The sense of believability is truely a scary thing and to think of the game industry and how much this has changed over the past 5 years really gets me thinking of future times. I really can't wait to immerse myself in HL2 and im sure you all can't wait either. My question to you is . . . . How can games get better then they currently are? What do you want to see in the next gen Half-Life or other games for that matter? Leave it to you. Sign Out Mellis

I think that's a very good question. I reckon the biggest limiting factor these days is the hardware. In the future I think we should see much bigger worlds to play in. Also, maybe better interaction with in-game characters such as being able to give them verbal instructions or ask questions? They are bound to improve character A.I. Perhaps they could do away with the "linear" aspect of the story lines. At the moment I feel that games are a bit like being "stuck" in a film and the only way to progress is through the story. It would be nice if the story panned-out differently each time you played it, I think. I'm sure in the next few years they'll find lots of ways to amaze us! We'll just have to wait and see. :)

An entirely interactive world where every character is different. Every building can be entered / destroyed, any vehicle can be driven / destroyed. Realistic physics throughout and a great looking weather system. You can be a civvie or get a gun and be a soldier. That would be the ultimate game. An entire world where nothing is ever the same.

HL2 won't be all that far from real. Beside the aliens of course.

If theres one thing I've learnt urban its "Don't assume, and don't get caught in the hype!"

Ok... So its two things, so shoot me! (Back off Brookster, its a play on words  Put the shotgun down!)

lol just take Doom3 for instance. Were all convinced this game would be the best thing ever. We though blood would ooze from bullet holes impales into the imps body and guts flail out of thier torsos with one quick blast from the shottie! Damn, for the least we were expecting dismemberment!

Not so. Instead we were given blood. And dissapearing bodies. RIPPED OFF!!

I found the game so incredibly pathetic when I first found you could kill a civilian in one punch and have him splatter into a skeleton which in a few short seconds became and invisable entity. Damn, I know those Marines were rugged and tough, but thats just overkill! (Overkill aint' good in these games.... Sometimes...)

But thats just one example. Apart from being overly repedative, eventually becoming boring, the game was bland because it didn't have the guts holes and "Super blood" we were all expecting. As a resault of hype and false anticipation, It sucked!

It did have a few good points though, sound, graphics weapons were cool. But yeah. Thats just my opinions there!

Yeah but you've seen what HL2 is capable of. Also the original was brilliant, Doom was a stress relief game like Postal or Serious Sam (in my view)

I respect your opinion and all but i believe that valve can pull this off. :)
