In all likelihood the G-man wouldn't have allowed Gordon to take Breen's offer. As we all know from the end of Half-Life 1, G-man basically gave Gordon a Hobson's Choice - "do what I tell you, or you'll die". Knowing what the G-man was capable of and willing to do, I personally (if I were Gordon, anyway) would have turned Breen down.
Anyway, it's an interesting hypothesis. Well, if he did accept and the G-man couldn't bring him back, by having Gordon Freeman on their side, instead of him chasing Breen down and pretty much obliterating the Citadel single-handedly, the Combine would have been able to put down the rebellion in short order - if not by themselves, then by calling in reinforcements through the portal. Combine rule would be re-established, and the G-man would have been pissed.
If he was unable of retrieving Gordon for the purposes of a reprimand, maybe the G-man would instead have pulled Adrian Shepherd out of stasis as a replacement for Gordon? Or even, used him to hunt Gordon down and then complete his work? For all we know, G-man has god-knows how many 'worthy warriors' in stasis, not just humans either, ready to use at a moment's notice. G-man seemed pretty keen for Gordon to do what he did, so it's unlikely he'd give up.
but if u could would you?
