I was looking through Gamespot just now and I saw a news entry about when the next chapter of the Halo series, Halo 3, could possibly be released.

Here is the article:

Halo 3 parrying PlayStation 3 launch Time quotes Bill Gates saying Sony's next-gen console will "walk into" the Xbox 360 follow-up to the best-selling sci-fi shooter.

For months, the Web was rife with rumors that Microsoft would ship the sequel to Halo 2 for the Xbox 360 simultaneously with the launch of the PlayStation 3. Now, that has been confirmed--by none other than Bill Gates himself.

In next week's issue of Time Magazine--which features Gates holding the Xbox 360 on the cover--Gates mentioned plans for the release of the much-anticipated follow-up to the best-selling console shooter. In a parenthetical sidebar in the article, Time says the following:

"Note to the hard-core faithful: the next version of Halo will not, repeat not, be ready in time for the launch of Xbox 360. It will be part of the all-important second wave next spring. 'It's perfect,' Gates says, radiant with bloodlust. 'The day Sony launches [the new PlayStation], and they walk right into Halo 3.'"

While Microsoft reps were not available for comment as of press time, Gates' comments appear to confirm the theory that Microsoft will release Halo 3 either simultaneously or near the release of Sony's next-gen console. It also marks further official confirmation that a third Halo is indeed in the works, and will be released for the Xbox 360.

Although such statements might be interpreted as grandstanding, such a maneuver definitely would have an impact. Halo 2 sold over 6.5 million copies to date, and is credited with doubling the subscriber base of Xbox Live from around 750,000 to over 1.5 million. It is also credited by industry-watchers as one of the main reasons for boosting sales of the original Xbox last holiday season.

So there you have it, from Bill Gates own words, now we just need to know when the PS3 is going to come out, and we'll get a rought idea of when we can expect Halo 3. But of course, the safest bet is to just wait for Bungie to say something about it, so Im treating this with a little bit of skepticism, even if this comes from Bill Gates himself, so wait for Bungie to say something before getting too excited.

And here is the article itself if you want to look at it yourself.

Yeah, when have we heard that before. We need to keep in mind that they coulde again put off the release date for halo 3. If they do microsoft and bungie are going to get in a big hole again and throw the game togetherin 11 months. Hopefully thats not the case but always a possiblity.

However, the article says from bill gates himself. He made the console, but he didn't make the game. Bungie is in control of that. But for the well-being of the halo community, I hope and pray to god that all hands are on deck at bungie studios so the thrid one will be the best one. They have 2 games of Halo under their belt, so hopefully this one will be better.

About the 360, I hope since it's that much of a better console, our old games will be backwards compatible. Some say yes, some say no, but what about those that want to paly halo and halo2? Will they have to buy another old xbox?

Exacly, that is what I was saying at the end of my first post, "before you start to get really excited, just wait for Bungie to say something, since they are the actual makers of the game."

And about the Xbox 360 being backwards compatible, I sure hope so, the new Xbox should be more than capable at emulating the first Xbox to be able to play Xbox 1 games on the 360, but it remains to be seen, lets just wait to see if they say anything at E3 these next couple of days. :)

lol I just read that article on gamespot about 2 mins ago. Yeah if I were Bungie since they have access to the Xbox 360 I would make a start on it like now. So that they can have the game in production 2 1/2 years before it's released, but nooo Bungie will go and pull some little stunt like they did last time and cram it all in at the last minute.

Bill gates is doing what he thinks he has to do...But He's in control. Microsoft Practicly owns bungie, so they have bungie wrapped around their Finger.

@ Titch - It will be one of the best hits yes, but this is from gamespot. Bill gates is proned to change his mind. Personally it sounds like a good plan, but if they want a total knockout of playstation, and a happy Halo Community, they need to release it with the 360.

Actually I think they start on Halo 3 right after they finishes Halo 2, but yeah, it still doesn't seem like much time work on it, we will see.

Yes it was reported Gamespot, but that quote from Bill Gates comes from Time Magazine, Gamespot only commented on it.

Time Magazine? Didn't they piss the Koran Follower off?

Anyway, Time magazine dosen't know crap about xboxs or gaming or anything. -Sirius- this is an excellent find but I refuse to believe any of it until Bungie says so. Better to be safe than sorry.

Thats is what ive been saying, like at the end of my first post and the second one.

And im not saying all this info came totally from Time Magazine, it came from Bill Gates in and interview with time magazine, the quotes are from what Bill Gates said himself not what time magazine said.

And yes as ive said before, wait for Bungie to say something first before you get too excited.

I rather it come out in spring and have it a good quality game then it being rushed to be a launch title. Maybe another Kotor for a launch title.
