Ok, When beating Halo 2 on legendary I have a Tip or two. (For when playing as an Elite)

-When you have an energy sword with low power, Give it to one of the other elites.

-They will not run out of ammo and will not die since they are VERY Good with Swords.

~AND (I Assume you all know this but o well)

-Collect Fuel Rod Cannons for the grunts on your team. They will Have lots of ammo and it will keep them alive.

-This helps when facing the Flood.

I'm having trouble with the first level on legendary. Can anyone suggest a method by which I might single-handedly defeat 5 plasma rifle elites, 2 dual-plasma elite, and a sword elite? How am I supposed to kill 8 elites?

Lucky nade...lol. The only way I could get a nade that lucky would be to shove it up one Elite's ass and have the other 7 try to pull it out. Otherwise, with my luck with grenades, I'd probably do more damage to myself than to the Elite(s).

I too am having a nightmare on legendary. I completed the original Halo on legendary, and I play the online PC version a lot, so I wouldn't say I was a Halo n00b, but the legendary setting on Halo 2 is rock. By the sounds of it I'm stuck on the same bit as Darwin_Award_Winner; the problem is that the I'm facing about 6 elites in the hangar bay with the red staircases going down into the floor, and even when I get a lot of hits on them, they just hide behind the boxes for a while till there shields regenerate (like me really . . .) so I can shoot at them all day without killing them, and eventually I run out of guns and ammo. Is the only answer to try and get them with the afore-mentioned 'lucky nade'? Or is there a good combination of guns to get the shields down and finish them off before they run and hide? The plasma pistol seems to be a pile of arse, I'm sure it was better on the original Halo - but then again some people on the forums seem to suggest it's quite useful on legendary. Any tips or gun-advice would be appreciated . . .

Find an energy sword or a good hand to hand weapon. The try to have plasma combos. Since plasma weakens their sheilds.

OK, I'm still as stuck as a boy could be, but some things have become apparent to me, and anyone else who's finding Legendary difficult might benefit from the following. Basically I'm faced with about 7 or 8 elites on the first level, that all hang around outside the mouth of the tube they used to board the ship. They don't move far from that position, which means that you can always retreat to a safe place, but anytime you shoot them, they shoot you back, which means that you have to duck behind a corner until your shield recovers, by which time their shield has recovered too. Basically, it's a stalemate, and if you keep it up for long enough, taking potshots where you can, eventually you run out of ammo. The answer it seems to me, and a helpful tip for anyone having the same problem, is the grenade. If you tag an elite with a plasma grenade, you've killed it, and if it's standing with its friends then you might take some of them out at the same time. The problem is that I only have a limited amount of nades, so it still isn't easy, but what I realised last night, and this is my second tip, is that you can get surprisingly close to the elites provided you stay out of their line of sight until the last second, and when they haven't seen you they tend to stand still which makes it much easier to tag them with a plasma nade. Also, I think it's a good idea to follow the initial plasma nade with a frag, cos the elites around the one that got tagged with the plasma nade will have lost their shields, and should receive a lot of casualties from a frag expoding a couple of seconds later. After throwing the nades it's probably a good idea to get out of Dodge since the remaining elites tend to go mental. Anyway, by implementing this strategy I was doing quite well last night, but then an elite with a sword ran up and killed me . . . I'll be ready for him next time.

That works, also you can use the plasma rifle. Since you can hold both triggers at once.
