I just finished the first Halo for the first time (I hopped on the Halo band wagon at Halo 2) and I'm wondering...what ever happened to that black space marine guy? Sorry I dont remember the characters name and need to referr to him as thus but what happened to him? At the end of the game MC says that no one else made it off Halo before it exploded yet he was on Halo throughout the game and is there in Halo 2...now it's possible I missed something b/c I've been playing the game on and off for the last 4 months so I could just not be remembering something like a line or two about it....I think I remember him being in the Guilty Spark level but nothing after that

Read the Halo Book called First Strike, it explains how he gets off Halo before it explodes (no i wont spoil it). Also his name is Sergeant Johnson
That man is Staff Sergeant Avery Johnson, usually just called Sgt. Johnson, or Sarge. In the book, Halo: First Strike, you find out that Cortana's initial scan immediately after the detonation of Halo missed a single Pelican that escaped and landed on a chunk of rock and powered down. They meet up and go have all sorts of adventures and stuff. Read the book if you wanna know more.
Short story, Sgt. Johnson did not actually die, which is why he's still in Halo 2.
Edit - Damn you, Dragon! :p
Haha it's ok, dont worry about spoiling it...no offence to anyone who likes to read those books but I'm not THAT big on Halo that I'm gonna go out and actually read a novel on it...not my thing...I'd rather just play the game.
Ok, well I think that was a little stupid though that they would expect you to read the book before playing Halo 2...from what I remember he's just there at the beginning of the second game and there's no mention of anything relating back to Halo...in fact now that I think of it...beyond The Flood, Cpt Keyes, and the original Halo station they dont recall much from the original game (that I remember off the top of my head) making playing the 2nd game first not that detrimental to the story

Its actually quite interesting how he lives. It says further on in the series. :)
Im pretty sure Sgt. Johgnson left halo before the cutscene, that was just a sort of a reward for finnishing the game on legendary.
Oh, the Elite hugging scene? Yeah, that's just an easter egg for those who finish the Maw on Legendary. Nothing to do with the actual plot.
Doesn't the halo comic book show how Sarge survived?Just get one!
