I recently made a mod to play with my friends on a LAN with the mod on their computers. After a couple of games, they went to do other general stuff. So I just played regular online. BUT, I forgot to put the original Blood Gultch back, so my modded one was still there. So when I shot my plasma pistol, out comes the 200 shots I put in my mod. I had always read that mods work online, because everything is based on the hosts stuff. My mind exploded. I figured I may as well go along with it, since it only seemed to affect me. However, barely 30 seconds later, someone comes at me with the super-shotgun I made for my mod. "WTF." is all I thought. But no one was screaming "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING, OMG, THAT GUY BLEW ME 50 FEET IN THE AIR, AUGHGHGHHH!!!!", so I basicly had a mental seizure. And now I'm thinking, "perhaps it only affects me??" But, again, not even a minute after that.... I was in a base, when some flew in the skyroof with a banshee. I freaked out, because I made the banshee have over 200 fuelrods at once. Although that would remove the banshee from the base no doubt, I would be blown to fruity flavored chunks. So, using my "super-shotgun", I fired. 2 shots, and "Alexis" was dead. But doesn't it normally take 5 shots? And with a banshee, more yet? Yet again, mental seizure. I almost immediatly zipped over here. So now, someone help, what the hell is going on?!?!

Did you think, by any chance, that the game was a bit laggier than normal? Well, if so, here's why. The part of Halo that communicates between two Halo MP players (netcode, for the more technical) does not transmit data regarding the map file. This means that what the other people are seeing is different to what you are seeing. Effectively, two slightly different games are being played. Feel free to quiz me more on this. It's not often someone comes along and asks a sensible question. :)

It was really weird. And you being a pro, I thought you could help me. Also, I already had this considered, but that shotgun incident just kinda screwed my head. And yes, I did notice extreme lag. But I'm smart enough to figure out that this is because of my mod. [quote=Zoxin;4400050]to me this is a pretty stupid question... sorry... mostmlikely the server you were on was modded aswell, or sinc ethey didnt have the mod, they were right on top of you with that shee and you just shopt perfectly according to the server.

This probably is a stupid question. I'm kinda new to modding, although I have created at least 2 other small games before this. Of course, one was a platformer, and the other an RPG, but no less, I thought I could be fine. So, I'm new. Well, I really quite throughly doubt that the server was running a mod with my EXACT specifications. And I suppose that it's possible that they jumped out of the Banshee.... after all, everyone knows it's near immposible to free a banshee from the skyroof in a base. No less, I'd appreciate others thoughts on this. It's really confusing. Also, I think I'll just do a little test at the library next week. I'll have one computer running Halo with my modded Blood Gulch, the other the regular map. Also, , I'm soon going to edit the landscape of Blood Gulch. I'm actually going to get my 3D tools after I finish checking these forums. So will it appear to others as though I'm floating? And will it look to me as though they walk through a wall (for example)? Oi, modding is a very delicate and confusing buisness! *Please excuse any spelling errors, I'm really very young.*

I didn't say the server would've been running the exact same mod. It could have been a similar mod that could kill in two hits also. It is 100% possible.

Also 100% unlikely, as then the clients would be communicating with three different sets of packets, resulting in lag so laggy it destroys all 13 hyper-mainframes. =p

The reason the shotgun had an effect is because you've effectively got your own little game going. He probably didn't receive any packets with player.destroy stamped all over them.

Your spelling is impeccable, don't worry about it.

Yeah, kind of like Jack's, but not really =). Wait, is he on-host or off? Usually a mod only works if you're host. Btw, a Banshee is destroyable in 2 shotgun shots, I think... He might have have a couple of health bars down as well. It doesn't take FIVE SHOTS to kill someone with a shotgun... 1 if you know what you're doing, 2 if you know what a shotgun is, 3 if you're a tad too far from the guy, 4 if he's farther, 12 if you're an idiot.

*WARNING THREADJACKING IN PROGRESS*

In all seriousness though: The mod you didnt remove probably just caused you to see the game as if you played your mod with all the fx and stuff. The server would probably have translated your super guns back to normal. This would make the game normal for all other players. also the banshee kill, low health and shields maybe??

Just my theory though

also carto: Stop Killing HaloEdit!! I keep receiving forbidden acces messages when I go to the forums :(
