I am about to start on a large project and I am looking for volunteers who want to take on building a completely new vehicle for Halo. If you are interested, please read my description below: MT2-Guillotine Megatank 2 This is basically a vehicle that has two forms, ball mode (mobile mode) and open mode (attack mode). I got the idea from a French anime called Code Lyoko. Mobile Mode- The vehicle is a complete sphere and rolls to move. Master Chief sits inside the round support frame, that houses the main cannon, in the middle of the sphere. It will have the basic effects of a moving vehicle, i.e. killing someone when it rolls over them, etc. In this mode (note- most vehicle have a low top speed but decent acceleration, but this vehicle will have a very high top speed and slightly lower acceleration, meaning it will cover longer distances quicker because it will have more time to accelerate and achieve its much higher top speed). While in mobile mode, no weapons will be accessible, but to compensate, the driver is completely invulnerable and protected while inside, and no weapons can harm him/her. Attack Mode- This is going to be the more complicated mode to create. The vehicle will spawn in attack mode (because it means it will be open and therefore able to get in/out of). In attack mode, the two halves of the sphere will seperate d, opening the vehicle. When you get into it after it spawns, it will immediately close for mobility, but will then be able to open as well. When you exit (press E), it will open and then you exit. In attack mode, this vehicle will be able to roll, but much slower, with a low acceleration and top speed (just the sphere halves roll, not the insides). However, it will be able to turn much easier, using both halves of the sphere turning in opposite directions, similar to the way tanks turn using their treads (turning in opposite directions), so that it can turn without moving forward or backward. In attack mode, the two weapons will be able to be used. Secondary Weapon - Gattling Guns: Basically the same as the turret on the Warthog, two of these are inside of the vehicle, one on each side of Master Chief. They will have slightly better accuracy and damage than those of the Warthog, but to compensate will have a slightly slower firing rate. Primary Weapon - Laser Wall Cannon: First of all, after reading this description, if you can think of a better name for this weapon, please tell me (lol). This weapon is the round thing that Master Chief sits inside of. This cannon shoots a wall of laser directly in front of the vehicle, starting from directly up (going all the way to the top of the map) to straight out at the base (all the way to the end of the map), creating a wall of laser that kills anything that touches it. Scenario would block this wall, so you could hide behind those. This effect would last about 5 seconds, at which point the laser would dissipate. This weapon would have about a 30 second cooldown time to compensate for its awesome power. Below are two images that this vehicle will be based off of. Go here and go to about 02:00 - it shows a short clip of what a Megatank basically is. Another video is here about 01:40 to 01:46 that shows a little of how the laser works (dont watch the beginning, the music is corny). A third video is here that shows a little more of a Megatank- watch from 00:27 to 00:38. Shows how Megatank opens and closes (Note- I will not be keeping the red, fleshy parts, only the top and bottom pistons). I also have a few questions: 1- To turn from attack mode into mobile mode, or vice-versa, I will need to assign a key to make it change. Is it possible (for Halo CE) to assign a key to be able to do this? 2- I have seen vehicles change slightly, i.e. hatches closing when you enter, or doors closing, but is it possible to make a vehicle completely change to a different 3d model, because to change from attack mode to mobile mode (or vice-versa), I want to have two seperate models that it switches from, but while it is switching it still needs to keep its solidity of a 3d model, and not be just an animation until it has fully changed. Is this possible (or do you even understand what I'm asking- lol)? 3- Is my main cannon (wall of laser) effect realistic- meaning will it work with Halo CE? It seems that it probably will, but it would basically be creating a whole new temporary 3d model as a weapon, so is this possible? ANY HELP AT ALL would be greatly appreciated, so please contact me (please please please) with any tutorials, programs (with keygens/cracks so I can USE them), or actual help. If you are interested, email me at email@example.com THANKS!!!
While this sounds pretty cool, I don't think it's really possible... Shifting from attack to mobile mode is either impossible or very hard. A more experienced scripter may be able to figure it out, but all I've managed to get is that you cannot have it be a single vehicle. Instead, you need it to be to separate vehicles, and you attach a script onto the flashlight to destroy the mobile mode and use a script similar to kirby_422's morphball script, to spawn the next mode and immediately get in. This will look very cheesy and rough, as you're going from one vehicle to the next like "poof", without a good transition animation such as the ball opening. I also sense a high chance of messed up physics that don't match the animations, such as the ball barely spinning and the thing moving so fast the rolling animation can't keep up. If you model, texture, and tag both vehicles, I might attempt to work on the script. But I'm not going to go on a rabbit chase across HS_Doc just to find something that might not ever come true.

Looks freikin easy to model...
Idk y I can't stop touchin it.

I will help u edit the gattling guns but the rest of this seems very difficult. I beleive you will need to put an axis through the ball to have threespots that dont move to mount the guns and then u will need to add a hatch somewhere having an attack mod and a mobile mode is not goin to happen.

for the issue of the spinning of the ball, we could make it sort of an optical illusion like the warthog tires... It will start just spinning slowly, then switch to a different skin and spin at same slow pace...
Did anyone even bother reading my post? This thing is sort of, you know, impossible?
Your post is the best thing I've read on the internet for 3 weeks, don't worry about it. :p
Quite frankly, Blam! isn't the right engine for this; you need something a lot more flexible, and preferably something where modifying the raw source code (ie, C++ programming) is easier/legal.
I'll take that as a compliment =).
Physics is my salvation

I agree with you doompig.(For once) The physics involved in this are complex and the coding would need to be readily adaptive or the design would spazz out. Even if you nailed the physics, the vehicle in motion would look like george bush had the runs all over barbara! If you want me to, I think I can crop some code up, for I think I can create basic rules for it with only a few pages of code. Hopefully you could use the code on Halo CE to apply it to your vehicle design.
Almost 30 maps on my mind now!

I disagree...in a way. This "mode" thing is impossible...in multiplayer, although you would be able to get 2 seperate vehicles, which would be the two modes. Which leads me to my second point. I have been working on Single Player A LOT and mabey too much, anyways, this IS possible in Single Player, although the transformation animation may not go. Just use a simple script which makes you get out the first vehicle and into the second with a button(mabey crouch or flashlight, but not E).
