I'm Mace Solo. I'm a skinner/mapper for JA, but I'm also very much into playing Halo. I have a friend who goes by Ice who does everything you can imagine for JA, and he's also interested in Halo. Although the game looks very different on his computer with his graphics card, but that's a different story.
As you may, or may not know, over in the JA community we had the best Master Chief model possible to use as a skin in JA. It was taken right out of the PC version of Halo, so it couldn't be more perfect. It also has sounds from the game, and can be used for the single player. I can't recall the author's name who got him in JA for us all, but I thank him greatly for his contribution.
I think I'll get onto the point now, though. You see, every model or skin that is put into single player of course uses the same dialog in cut scenes. As you can imagine, our friend Master Chief does not sound like himself. So my friend had the idea (and the know how) of the ability to replace these old sound bites with the origonal sounds that came with the Master Chief model for JA. He came out with a beta that does this for the first cut scene in the game. Personally....I found this to be freaking hilarious. Not only would he sound right, but it would allow single player itself to be much MUCH more humorous than it was before.
Hence, the reason why I post and ask this of the Halo modding community: We would like the voice-overs of everything said by Master Chief, and Cortana to be able to insert them in this JA single player modification. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. Whether we have the sounds handed to us, or you instruct us how on getting them. Of course, anyone who would assist us would get proper credit in the umm...well credits. You would be well pointed out, and who knows, maybe famous. At least in the JA community.
And if you were able to read this far, that's great too. Thank you for your time and consideration, and be sure to reply with any suggestions/assistance when you get the chance.
Thank you all again!
Let me try and understand something, you want the dialog clips from Halo singleplayer for Jedi Academy sinbleplayer?, but how would that work for the cutscenes?, or did I misunderstand what you where trying to do? :uhm:
Yeah man, that's it.
Both of us playing through Jedi Academy single player several times, and myself of course playing Halo several times, can see how it would work out.
It's just a matter of putting all the sounds together in the right spots, and even changing a few of the other characters sounds. But in the process, still keeping the story. And along with that, making the JA single player VERY humorous.
Here's an example of the small bit we have so far:
(Master Chief is sitting in shuttle in the same row as another wanna be Jedi Rosh Penin. In the JA community...we have grown to hate Rosh, haha. So having Master Chief insult him instead of making small talk would make for great funny-ness.)
Pilot: We'll be arriving at the academy in a few minutes.
Rosh: That will be so great! *walks over and sits next to Master Chief, getting in his face* Aren't you excited!? We're going to be Jedi! Learning the ways of the Force, building a lightsaber...*he looks and sees a saber laying next to Master Chief* ...of course you already have one...I'll probably be getting one of those stupid training sabers, an--...
Master Chief: *interrupts* Don't get any funny ideas.
Rosh: Ahhh I can't help it...I wanna make a good impression!
Master Chief: I need a weapon.
Rosh: Aren't you? I mean you already have a lightsaber so you have nothing to worry about.
Rosh: Umm...so what's your name?
Master Chief: Ughh...
As you can tell, things are off to a funny, yet rough start. The roughness of course will be smoothed out once we get more co-ordinated with what the other characters will say, and once we get out Master Chief and Cortana voice overs. I hope that answers any questions you had.
Once again, help would be greatly appreciated!:) Right now I was informed that we'll be doing other things like making new loading screens for the mod, and such. But still, we need those sounds.
Once again, thank you for your time, and once again again, help would be greatly appreciated.
I think you can find all the sounds with HMT, if you know what you're looking for.
Halo Map Tools, version 3.5. You can find it at halo websites, like our own halofiles.com.
I was told by my partner that that the sounds are in a format unheard of. I haven't looked at them myself, so I may have a program that could have them set to something we can use.
I had the map tools myself at one point in time, but I didn't get into it far enough to attempt making a map myself, let alone know that it could get sounds from Halo single player.
Well, got some work to look into then.
The sounds in Halo are Ogg Vorbis format. You could probably find a converter for Vorbis-MP3 and vice versa on Google, so you can add your own sounds. I once took a techno/rave song and changed the Warthog engine noise with it, so whenever the Hog turns on, instant ravemobile.
But, then you would have to convert them to the JA format...which i have no clue what that is :\
Wow! Very fascinating. Thank you very much, man. That's some really helpful advise. And that sounds pretty cool, by the way, haha.
And Sorrow, it actually works out quite well. All the sounds are primarily .mp3 files for the single player sound bits. I mean that's what we have now with the adjustments we've made so far and it works great.
Thank you so much for the helpful information! We'll get cracking on that, and I'll be sure to post any updates we have on the project so far.
In fact...I have some of those right now. We now have the plasma elite sword as a chooseable weapon, thanks to someone else who modeled it. It has a couple of bugs with animations, but believe it or not, we can fix it, haha. So that is almost done. We're also working on the assault rifle from Halo to put in there. It looks great, maybe I'll see about posting screens of the project soon. So with that, we're just adjusting the bullets themselves, and getting the right sounds for it, since the origonal author couldn't get them, or the clip interface on it just right.
Another addition to the mod is already complete: a main enemy from the JA SP mode is now a Covenant Elite with the plasma sword. Not hard to dub new sound bites for that since well...you should know what the Covenant sound like. Actually kinda funny how he talks in the first cut scene that he does:
Voice off screen: Did you retrieve Skywalkers records...?
Covenant Elite: rrrrRRRRRYYYYYYEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHH!!
Voice off screen: Good....*laughs*
Hmm...what else...Oh yeah. We also have new loading screens for a few of the levels. That shouldn't be too hard to finish. And I think that's what we have so far.
Once again, thank you for your help! We'll be staying in touch for sure. And perhaps I'll have some screen shots ready to post up here for you guys to see.
