ok, so on my Xbox version of Halo 2, I was playing on Xbox Live, and I went to go download the update for H2. But, for some reason, when it said it was odne downloading, the menus in the game went unbelievably slow, and my disc was unreadable, meaning i couldnt play, even the single player. the front screen said version 1.1, and im sure it downloaded, but when i looked at the disc, i noticed a line all the way around the disc, near the outside edge, that wasnt there before. ultimately, i bought a new copy of it and am now replaying the game for the hell of it, but I would like to warn others of this error, and also ask if anything remotely like this happened to any of you. I would also like to ask if anyone knows any way of fixing the problem, or of making sure that when i go to download the update on my new copy, the same thing doesnt happen. thank you. ~Hunter

wow, thats some update, turns a stardard DVD reader into a powerful writer. There is some problem with the latest update, I seen this error many times, but i still haven't experienced it (maybe because I never downloaded the first update). As far as I know they main solution is to wipe off all your Halo 2 data (including savegames) from your Xbox HDD and then downloaded the update. As for the line around your disk.....well uhhhmmmm did you test it on another Xbox before you went out and bought a second???

Honestly, the disc could have been rubbing on something inside the DvD-ROM. Happend to my forst halo game and it happens. Sorry you had to by a new copy... Make sure your xbox stays level and dosen't get to hot. As for the error, Shadow has no clue. My friend had No problem. More than likely it was your drive...

[QUOTE=Sorrow] Shadow has no clue. My friend had No problem. QUOTE] Go vist Bungie's Halo 2 forums and you will see that this error is well known and seems to have no cause (or at least it not been found). Its also listed on the Xbox website as an 'uknown download error'

i did try it on another xbox, and it had the same effect. i believe that it was because of the enormous coincidence that my live subscription ended that day, and for some miraculously unlucky reason, it screwed up the download of the update. but the line on the disc -- looked exactly like the line you see on a burned cd, except for the fact that it didnt span the whole disc, just about a inch from the outside edge to about a quarter inch past that. it was very weird. but it's alright, because now i get another two free months of live.

thanks for your help though. if anyone else can think of anything, i would be happy to hear about it.
