Hey guys - First off i love Halo
but i gotta issue here
I had windows XP Pro SP2 installed on this pc Halo ran fine
i formatted reinstalled everything and am now on Windows 2000 Professional
HALO will not work
Any time i try to connect to a Server it will say loading map - then Freeze 100% SOLID - I have to turn the pc all the way off to even get back onto the thing
I installed Halo - Updated to 1.7 using the included Updater program etc... so i am running the most UP to date Halo
my System Specs are below
P4 2.8 Dual Core CPU 1 Gig Ram ATI 7600 All - in - Wonder Pro Video Card
Direct X 9
umm Onboard Sound Realtek Audio etc..
Thats all i can think of -- ANYONE got any IDEAS
My Video Card drivers are the Newest out - so imma toy with them maybe try an older version see if it helps
HELP ME!!!! i dont wanna throw it away i just bought it tonight -- right before formatting and going to 2000 pro
Windows 2000 is absolutely THE WORST operating system to play games on. 2000 is really only good for office work, and nothing more intense than that. You'd be a whole lot better off getting XP, Home or Professional Edition (Home will do just fine). Hell, I bet you'd have better luck with Windows 95 or 98 than 2000. The rest of your specs look just fine. It's your OS that's crippling Halo, and not to mention most likely any other game you try to run.
Well i had XP Pro on here game runs fine - BUT XP Pro screws up left n right
2000 Pro has been more Stable for me
And None of my other games have ever not ran on 2000 pro
i mean NONE -- bf1942 all addons RTCW and few others
Anything that can be done other then RE-upgrading to windows XP
MicroCRAP's Tech support guys are friggin Retards - they suggested all the same CRAP i did already 1000 times
so im lost -- Bill can get his fat A$$ off the couch and write some code that WILL work Halo on 2kPro
Yeah, Micro$oft sucks at life. Sorry they haven't been much help. However, I still recommend upgrading (again!) to XP. Also, I didn't know Pro Edition screws things up like that...interesting.
/me strokes his beard.
Yeah, I used to have 2000 a few years ago, and I could not run any game, no matter what I did. It's just the way it's made, it doesn't play nicely with certain things, Halo included.
I'm not sure if Windows 2000 has the Compatibility Mode feature like XP does, but if so, try this: right-click "halo.exe" in whatever folder you installed Halo in (usually C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Halo) and choose "Properties". If 2000 has the feature, there should be a tab at the top that says "Program Compatibility" or something of the sort. If it's there, there should be a drop-down box that lets you choose to run Halo as a Windows 95 or 98 program.
Like I say, I'm not even sure the feature exists on Windows 2000, or whether Halo would run on 95 or 98 in the first place. Apart from that, I'm afraid there's really not much you can do short of going to XP.
Hope you find this helpful.
