Ok I have a rather new computer which runs Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I was wondering if anyone else has Vista and if they have any problems with Halo Trial/Full Version/Custom Edition multiplayer.
I don't have any problems with Halo and Vista. If you want to make it easier to copy and paste map files, make the maps folder modifiable by normal users so it does not ask you for permission every time u copy and paste there.
I have Server 08, it's effectively the same thing...
But I suggest that unless you intend to buy Dx10 games, or you really love the Aero theme, use XP for modding. The extra FPS/applications you can run at once due to the better efficiency of XP will be worth it.
The only error I can think of, off the top of my head, is that you have to manually update, and you may want to run as a superuser (root) to avoid any hassle with permissions.
You don't need to manually update if you set the permitions right on the Halo Folder. And my Vista is way better then my XP was.
I have no problems modding with Vista. Actually, I only have one problem: As soon as I got Vista, all my online/multiplayer games started lagging uncontrollably any time I tried to play them.
Vista has some problems with TCP/IP/UDP networking. The only way to fix it involves a bit of reverse engineering, which can lead to slightly unstable systems... ;)
Also, do you get annoying text sizes in Guerrilla's dropdown menus?
Yeah, it doesn't bother me though. You can still read everything.
I don't get any lag in online multi-player games (besides Internet connection). And if you use E3po's Guerrilla you don't get the drop-down error.
And if you use E3po's Guerrilla you don't get the drop-down error.
That's good to know.
You say you don't get any lag? What version of Vista are you running?
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
