I'm looking into buying HaloPC, but since my graphics card sucks, I don't want to get it yet.
My current machine looks like this:
AthlonXP 2400+ One of the newer Via chipset boards by MSI, don't remember which one 770Mb RAM Win2k GeForce2 MX-400 32Mb Graphics card
As you can see, I have a decent machine, 'cept for the video card :uhm:. Halo Trial looks like crap :(.
Anyhoo, my friend has a G4 MX-440 64Mb card that he's not gonna be using.
Question is: If I bought my friend's card, would it give me enough of a performance boost to play Halo with it looking at least as good as the XBox version?
Hmmm, a 64 MB card won't do you too well either. You need at least a 128 MB graphic card in order to run Halo over medium settings. I suggest buying a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro - 128MB graphic card. It is a very good card for the money and it should be able to play Halo on the highest settings.
I don't really have the cash to throw around on a new card, especially since I've still got to buy the game.
I think I saw a local add for a Geforce FX-5200 128Mb card (or something like that) for pretty cheap a couple of weeks ago. Do you think that'd do it?
Well, anyway, thanks for the advice. :clueless:
Mmm.. Okay I just thought of something.
Let's say I really didn't care about the graphics looking stellar. Let's say I'd be happy running the game at, say, 1024x768 resolution, with almost everything maxed or almost maxed out. Do you think my friend's card could handle it?
No. Ask your graphic card question in the tech discussion area. They're the experts on this.
