Recently installed the trenches, global warfare, zombie panic and firearms, to name but a few.. I was jsut wondering if anyone actually plays these? On the trenches, I have managed to see a total of two plaers online ever and similarly few on other mods...Is everyone on to other things now, or do I have a technical problem?
I would probably imagine that everyone has startd to play more on the Half Life 2 Mods as they are graphically better, and run alot smoother. Thats just my opinion. :P
And you dont have to try and haul them through steam, yeah (HL2 mods are made with steam compatible installers). But I would love ot try the trences out - get in some practice before the source version appears...
No trench's servers, because the mod was never popular, nor was global warfare. Zombie Panic still has like 6 dedicated servers up all the time, with 2-3 with epople in them. Firearms...I dunno, havn't played in awhile. Brainbread still has like 10 servers, with 2-3 per.
Natural Selection has about 80 servers, ussualy full.
Earth Special Force's still has about 25-30 servers up.
and Counter-Strike is a HL1 mod, and their's still more servers for it than CS:S, which is funny, but it'll be a long transition to the source version(Besides all the screwups in CS:S, keeps so many playing original)
So yes, LOTS of HL1 mods still have plenty playing. Heck, look at HL1 with no mods, still 100 + Servers. It's running strong, but it is old. No game as old as it is still as active(Unless you count Starcraft, but different genre)players, which is why it's so amazing :P

You are quite wrong. Global Warfare was popular, but died later on.
Earth's Special Forces is still quite popular, just ask Skyrider ;)
I still enjoy Sven co-op and The Specialists very much every now and then but most HL1 mods are at the end of their peak.
