I just borrowed Half-life Game of the Year Edition from my friend. I installed Team Fortrass, and got the Steam program. when i double click a TF game, a window pops up, advertising to buy TF and CS etc. I click "Register product that i already own." i type my friends CD-key. it gets half-way, and says "Duplictae CD-key, blah blah blah" Is there ANY way that I can play half-life or any of the MOD's with my friends CD-key.

You'll have to buy a new copy of either Half-Life, Blueshift, Gunman Chronicles or the retail versions of Counter-Strike or Day of Defeat to be able to play all Half-Life based games on Steam (Condition Zero excepted).

Note: If you decide to buy a new copy, be prepared to pay $10 more, since your key has been duplicated by Vivendi (formally: Sierra). To replace the duplicate key, VALVe charges an additional fee . . .
