Go to C:/Half-Life/gearbox/cl_dlls folder and make sure you have client.dll file there. If it's not there, go your Opposing Force CD and manually copy it from D:/OPFOR/gearbox/cl_dlls folder. Your CD/DVD drive may have other letter than D: , so don't get confused.

Try doing this:

  • go to your Half-Life folder
  • right click on hl.exe file and choose Properties
  • go to Compatibility tab
  • enable Compatibility Mode and set it for Windows 98 / Windows ME
  • click Ok and try running the game again

Try reinstalling the game. Both Half-Life and Opposing Force. But before you do that, do me a favour and delete that client.dll file from your cl_dlls folder and copy it again from your Opposing Force CD. Perhaps somehow it got corrupted. And don't worry; I'll do my best to help you. :)

Anyone else think it's odd that the directory in his error message shows both forward slashes "/" and backslashes "\"?

I noticed the same thing, but I thought he typed it incorrectly. What are you aiming here for, my fellow countryman (Croatia)?
