I just Downloaded steam, but it wont update or whatever. also if i get this to work will it play "The Opera" mod?

Locate and move platform.gcf and steamui.dll to the desktop (if it works you can delete them). This will force steam to re-download all the files it needs.

it wont update at all it just says "Error: Could not connect to steam network"

If it did not work after removing those files, then it is not working correctly. I suggest just downloading steam again. You can download the small 600kb version. Post back if you are still having problems....
