Ai assaults, no one ever moves -1 reply

I have been trying to get an ai_assault to work and have looked over all the tutorials but for some reason they never move. Could it be related to the section saying that they can only move within a certain hint group? If it is could someone tell me how to do that because i have never worked with hints before.

when you make it like this below they will move;

-place 3 npc_combines; name; combine1 squad name; combines1

-3 assault_rallypoints (place these near combines!) name; assault_rally1

-1 assault_assaultpoint (where the atack point should be! give it the right angle that they should look in when they are there!) name;assault_point1

-go back to the 3 rallypoints!!; assaultpoint to; assault_point1

-1 ai_goal_assault name;triggerassault1 rallypoint; assault_rally1 actors to affect; combine1 search type; entity name start active; yes

-Trigger,(trigger once or multiple, depence on what you need); name;tr1 output; OnTrigger target entiy; triggerassault1 input; beginassault

when you do it like this it works for sure, when you still have problems than just let me know and i will help you further. i know all to well how frustrating it was when i had the same problem. atacking combines, (or other npc's) make a map realy special.

I tried what you said but they still just stand there, the thing is that isnt the only one not working. I have set an ai_realtionship that is a copy of a working one from another map but it doesnt work either:confused:.

I will fiddle around to see if it is due to a mistake I made.

when it doesn't work than i'm sure you did make a mistake in one of the settings. even a little mistake, (just one letter wrong) and it doesn't work anymore. did forget to tell you that you also have to place the ai_goal_assault near the combines. did you place the combines right? stupid question, but maybe you place them with there feet a little bit into the ground, or a wall or so. what also could be the problem is that the distance between the combines and there assault_rallypoints and there assault_assaultpoint is to big. for instance when you have placed the combines in a narrow hallway and the assault_assaultpoint is a great distance away, with many corners between it, than they can't find it and will not move. when you want to let them atack around many corners, than you have to place more assault_assaultpoints, and connect them with each other. when you want i could sent you a working assault vmf, just a little map with all of this in it, what works. so you can copy it in your map, and ofcourse you also have to work a bit with it, change things to see what you all can do with it, and what can be changed.

I will give it one more try, see if i spelt something wrong and then if it doesnt work that vmf would be pretty awesome:)

My assaultpoint is pretty far away from them but it is just straightdown a hall.

when you give a adress than i will sent the vmf to you,

(you mean with straid down a hall, that's it just furhter away from the combines, or do you mean it's beneath them? because when that's the case than that's also the problem. when they have to go up or down, that you have to place more of those assalt points. i will make a testmap fro you with different settings with this all, just give me an adress to sent it to. know all to well how nice it is when they actualy atack instead of just standing there untill you're in side)

i'm sorry i didn't reply mores soon but was very bussy last few days. i will make a nice tutmap for you with this stuff in it. i don't want to steel you from this forum to another one, but i just want to say that i'm a co-admin of a new hl2 mapping forum that is specialy there for sp mapping questions, and because it's rather quiet here the last few months (like it is with most hl2 mapping forums these days)therefore you could place you're questions also on sp-mods.com. for sure you get quicker and asnwer there, because i always look there ones or twice a day, togetter with the admin called baltic.forever. and because you're now sp mapping this mait be a good idear to do so. i will sent you the tutmap in an hour or 2.

i'm so sorry that you still haven't receeved that tutmap of mine, but i will do so tomorrow! it's just that i have the whole day big pc problems, there is a odd memmory error. have to fix this before i can do anything else, hammer/hl2 and everything else runs like sh+t now. but tomorrow you will have it.
