i cant get the custom cfg file (skill.cfg) to work, would it be possible to get the game to use it through the launch options for the game in steam? or would it be possible to set up a mod just for using the edited file?
if you are running the server on your computer then just "exec skill" during gameplay. if the server is not on your computer then type in "rcon_password (password) and put rcon in front of each line, then execute it.
for some reason that doesnt work. i extracted the skill.cfg, edited it, and put it here: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\(user name)\half-life 2\hl2\cfg thats right isnt it?
ok well that should have worked unless you wanted it for online use. if you want it for online then you would have to put it in your half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2dm\cfg folder, but there is one more way, inside the C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\???\half-life 2(or half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2(or hl2mp) folder create a folder called "scripts" and put it in there. also you type "exec skill" in the autoexec.cfg file, but that won't always work.
where is the autoexec.cfg? i cant seem to find it...
You have to create it.
doesnt seem to work, the autoexec file works, in the console it says "execing skill.cfg", but nothing happens in game...
in singleplayer it works with spawned npcs for me but not set in-game npcs, so i think there is another file you need to edit for them
thanks for all the help. does anyone know of any other ways to get edited .cfg files to work? what im trying to do is tweak the amount of ammo that can be held.
that's not done through the skill.cfg, that is for amounts of life and damage mostly, if you have gcfscape you need to open the "source engine" gcf and go into the hl2\scripts folder and there will be a list of weapon_357, weapon_pistol, weapon_smg1, weapon_ar2 etc. you need to extract those and edit them to however you want. then you need to put in the C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\manipulator\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp\scripts folder, if you don't have scripts you need to make it. and there you go that should work
