I hope that I can be of some help, I shall try and explain things in an easy to understand method....... Okay, when you fire up hammer editor click on "Tools" in the menu bar at the top and then click on "Options" this should bring up the Configuration box, make sure the following are correct :- Configuration : Half Life 2 Deathmatch Game Data Files: C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\yourname\sourcesdk\bin (this is the location of the hl2dm.fgd file, I believe that the hl2mp.fgd is the same, the location will probably not be the same as the one above, but all you need to do is locate the .fgd file for half life 2 deathmatch) Texture Format: Materials [Half-Life 2] Map Type: Half-Life 2 Default PointEntity class: info_player_start (or you can change this to - info_player_deathmatch) Default SolidEntity class: func_wall Default texture scale: 0.25 Default lightmap scale: 16 Cordon texture: BLACK Game Executable Directory [ex: c:\Half-Life]: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\yourname\sourcesdk (again, this might not be exactly the same, but it is a rough guide to where the hl2.exe is) Game Directory (where Gameinfo.txt is) : Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\yourname\sourcesdk\hl2dm_content (This is a folder I made so I can store all my half life 2 deathmatch content, just point it to where your gameinfo.txt file is) Hammer Map Directory : <<<<< THIS IS THE IMPORTANT ONE Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\yourname\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp\maps If you have the above correct, when you compile your map, it should place all the relevant files into the correct places and then to play the map, create a server and choose the map which should be in the map list. If you have any further problems, let me know and I shall try and help as best as I can.

I'm having exactly the same problem. I checked what I had put in for the Hammer Map directory file, and that didn't work, so I copied and pasted yours in, changing it to my username. I then compile the map and when it enters HL2dm, it says the map is invalid or there is no such map. Help!

Ok let me help you guys here

First go in your steam\steamApps\Username\ and delete the folder sourcesdk

close steam... reopen steam... restart sourcesdk steam will redownload the sourcesdk with all the right config (this is just to make sure you didnt do something wrong with the config files

Now choose your game config between hl2 deathmatch counter-strike hl2 done

(lets say you wanna do a hl2 deathmatch map)

start hammer done

build your map or a part of your map and save it (for exemple save it as FIRST) done

go under Files---- and click RUN (DONT i REPEAT DONT RUN THE MAP AFTER COMPILING) for that you need to check the little box at the bottom of the RUN window (btw BSP, VIS and RAD should be on normal) click OK done

now youll see a kinda notepad compiling the map when you see COPY to CLIPBOARD appear, it meens your map is compile done

open Explorer and go to \Steam\SteamApps\username\sourcesdk\hl2mp_sample_content\maps done

Copy (from that folder) FIRST.bsp (if you saved your map as FIRST) to \Steam\SteamApps\username\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp\maps done

Now start half-life2 deathmatch from steam and create a server done

Choose map FIRST done

PLAY :P done

btw then you can alt-tab to go back to your hammer... make your changes on the map resave it, recompile it, recopy it to the half-life2 deathmatch folder return to the game restart the map with the new changes

hope it help you (cause i had the same problem at first and god i was happy when i finally found out how this thing really works
