wow, now that i look at it, it does look more like a model... i doubt it though, what would be the reason for that?

Maps can be made in XSI, its not exclusivly a moddeling program. I think you can probably get better/more 'fancy' geometry in XSI as opposed to Hammer. ADDED:Although now that i actually look at the screenshots it probably is just Hammer, commonly materials are not applied while the maps geometry is bieng constructed. Not sure why, its just the way its done.

Wich is impossible, you don't have the source code of those engines so there is nothing you can do.

Erm, you might be a little confused with other 'source's... Source - the HL2 engine, NOT meaning Quake3 Source code. Recreating Omaha and Southern France for a Source mod is very possible (and something we're currently doing).

What aspect? The mod itself? Or the mapping aspect? The mapping aspect is already underway, and I can assure you is anything but impossible. The mod itself is not impossible, and has great potential.
