This may be a very n00b question again from me,but i'm just wondering...May i use music from movies for my mod?Would it be legal to use the music of The Matrix or the music of Call of Duty 2 in my mod for an example?

no, that would be illegal. the only legal way is to use half-life2:s music, making your own music, that youve made yourself, or getting permission from others.

I just can't understand it..why is it illegal...i mean,i make it free,i don't get money for it,i even may buy some tools for money in order to have appropriate tools, and it's illegal to put in music i didn't make, although there is no money out of it for no one?I know it's a law,but it's wack....But thx for the info...I'll make one mod with the music anyways lol,i just won't make it official....Just give it to friends,etc....1 more thing...and if i use like music from like for example Beethoven, would that be illegal too?

No, unless you asked for permission from the company and got it(which they probably wouldn't answer).

Basically, you cant use it because you would be gaining something from using their product, they dont no if your selling it secretly so they have to be very careful.

well keep in mind that there are some musician labels out there that are very leaniant (wrong spelling) about music rights, some even let you download their music for free, for example Tom Petty

Uh-huh.....Well if that's the law....but i still think it's crap....And if i'd want to make a matrix mod i'd need to write to the Watchowsky brothers or who the hell?(:D Dear [i donno his name, maybe i mistyped his last name too lol]Wachowsky!I want to make a Matrix themed modification for Half Life 2,and i would need your premission to use your intellectual property lol:D)....It sounds sooo ridiculus

And what music will the War of the Worlds mod use...Will they use the original music?Did they need to ask for premission?(if yes and they got it,respect)
