Just purchased HL-2 fantastic game. I love editing, downloaded maps from file website, where do i install them? Found a map folder in HL-2, put maps there, tried opening them, and they did not comply. Is it possible to play these maps anytime? If so how? Same question applies to vehicles. I guess the main question is where do i unzip all downloads? Is there a simple tutorial in this website for doing so? Has anyone seen a 3rd person view for the game where you actually see the player? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for the help!!
valve\steam\steamapps\USERNAME\half-life2 is where they go, I believe. Dont put them in the maps folder.
ok this is where you install maps programfiles/valve/steam/steamapps/(yourusername)/half-life 2/hl2/maps. then just go to the HL2 console and type maps_(nameofmap) (to enable console go to settings then anvanced and check box) there is a 3rd person view but there is no model for Gordon so it looks wierd. And you never see Freeman sorry.....Glad i could help.;) and they DO go in maps folder im playing about 20 custom maps and all the maps are in my maps folder.
Thanks masterstevenx4, however, when i enter the map name exactly as it is named i recieve a "invalid command" message, what could i be doing wrong. example: map_playground. I am using the maps from Vol.1.
thanks for the help
If you extracted the maps to your maps folder chances are they will have been put into a folder inside the maps folder e.g. halflife2/hl2/maps/maps which means they will not work. This is because the people who made the map pack probably tried to make installing them easier by making it so you just select you root HL2 folder and they will be put into the correct place.... That didn't make alot of sense so basically just open your hl2 maps folder and see whats in there. If there are a load of .bsp files they are in the right place, if there is a folder called maps cut all the .bsps out of it and paste them into the main maps folder (hl2/maps). .. and the command isnt maps_whatever (though it might work ) its
e.g. "map dm_lockdown"
