Replacing a world model with another world model -1 reply

I've been trying to use a different world model for the ar2, but I can't seem to get any working. If I designate the new model in the script, it shows up in game but it doesn't fire. If I hex edit and rename the files, the game crashes. Is it even possible? Or do I have to recompile the model?

Yeah your trying to replace the default model aren't you;you don't do that. Put the ar2 model in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\*account name*\half-life2\hl2\models\weapons and the materials in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\*account name*\half-life2\hl2\materials\models\weapons\W_IRifle

someone correct me if I'm wrong please,I used gcfscape to find the folder

Basically for all source games you put them in a folder similar to that rather than overwriting the original file like in 1.6 games,this way,if you ever want to have the default model back,you simply delete the custom model. More games need this feature.

I did some digging and it looks like a recompile is needed. Just for future reference to anyone trying to do the same thing.
