Does anyone know where Half Life 2 stores the single player maps so I can open them in hammer and convert them to multiplayer maps? Will hammer edit BSP files or will I need to change the file type?

HA. You can't edit the bsp, you can't just change the extension either. The only thing you can do is open the map is hammer, and their are only a few levels of sp that they give you the source for. They give you C17, trainstation, coast and ravenholm. Some of it. You have to go in there, delete all the npcs, add spawn points, etc, then compile the map in hammer.

They are in the hl2 gcf. get a gcf reader to browse for them. you can't edit bsps, unless you decompile them, but that doesn't work very well, plus it is deeply frowned upon if you decompile someone else's map.

Think of BSPs as cookies. You can't get the flour, butter, sugar and milk back from them.

k, if you are really determined, get GCFScape (http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=26) and open the hl2 GCF file (stored in your SteamApps folder). You shall find them there.

gl with editting...

I think I remember xdiesp saying that they were just savegames. And sure enough, if you go into load games in HL2 Substance, there's saves from the very beginning of every map. I don't know how exactly he did it, though..

I think that if you open a .bsp in notepad or something you can edit minor things in the level like enemy numbers and postions and where weapons are.
