i like the idear of a SP mod, normaly it's all mp that goes around and hardly anyone is into sp mapping/modding, (and this is not only the case with hl2, but with almost every game). i myself am only working on sp maps for games and therefor i like this idear of a hl2 sp mod. but i have to say that i have seen mutch to many times that people start with very good and great idears, but it all dies after a few weeks or you just hear nothing about it anymore. therefor my question, did you think it all enough trough? i mean, is your plan realistic? for instance; how mutch maps do you think to make for this mod, and in how mutch time do you want it to make? also is the idear of making hl2 into a ww2 shooter a great idear, but with this idear as starting point do you make it hard for yourself and other mod members because hl2 is a sf game, so this makes that npc's, cars'weapons, etc have to be changed. i'm interested, but as i said, and it happend to me before, that i joined something, worked very hard on it, to hear that it was all for nothing.
Actually I have spent a lot of time thinking this one through. Almost a week after buying my Half Life 2 - when I beat it - I began thinking about how I could use the source engine to make an SP game that a lot of people could enjoy. I have been planning and planning and I have come up with this map list.
- Omaha (or another, thinking about common usage here) Beach - The Bocage - Caen (This map will be used in three different missions, the siege, the german counterattack and the american counterattack. they will vary in weather and damage) - Ambush in the Fields - Battle of the Bulge 1 - Battle of the Bulge 2 I'm doing my best to keep this mod realistic (not gameplay realistic, but development realistic) and I am going to stick with it. - crazy__crash
don't get me wrong, i understand why you would like to choose for the hl2 editor with all the hl2 stuff, because it's the pretty most the best game engines can give us now. still, i have worked with severel radiant versions for mohaa, RTCW and cod (and sof2 but that's no ww2)and have made severel sp-mappacks with them. therefor i know that when you want to make a ww2 sp-game the best thing to do is to take a game that allr4eady has that future from a ww. especialy cod is very nice, the effects are great and it has a great war realism in it. take for instance the shell shock, very realistic. did you play cod? and did you worked with radiant? it's simular as hammer, it took me 3 days to find my way around in hammer.
yes i have used radiant and personally i do not find it as user friendly as something like hammer. CoD, IMO, was not made to be mod friendly. I am a big fan of CoD series.
im bored of WW2 mods, i'd love a game that would be like ironstorm but good/realistic(ironstorm had no recoil and gave u an owange gun from the v beginning)
The storyline was that WWI never ended and now it is 1967 and then you find out this big thing bla de bla, but you could ignore that part and just do a War never ended. And just think ouit epic battles that people havent seen a million times.
what you should do is make a HL2 Pirates mod. Now that would realy get peoples attention.
...thats completely different from what hes talking about and anyway a good pirate game was recently brought out(sid meiers pirates)
and PvK will prob come out for hl2
a singelplayer world war 2 mod using the Source Engine! hell yes!! its time someone really harnessed the power of source (even though its been out for a short time) and made a kick ass world war 2 mod, taking advantage of the features source has. i would really like to join this, maybe as sound and music composition. a few suggestions: 1. i think maybe the capturing of Cherbourg would make a good mission, as would all missions where you fought through rurul france after oepration overlord. 2. squad commands would have to be implemented a bit better than half life 2's. half the time in Hl2 my allies just stood there not listening to me and i had to do everything myself. 3. include a lot of weapons that havnt been done before in mainstream games; such as different variants on guns, like modified garands that could fire full automatic (a guy from band of brothers could make one fire auto), and less known french and german guns. if the team is convicted and actually work towards a goal, rather than just give up ater half way, i think this mod could really give Brothers in Arms a run fr its money.
like modified garands that could fire full automatic (a guy from band of brothers could make one fire auto)
:uhm: I dont believe that.I would not think they are not designed in a way that would allow for fully automatic fire. While they use a gas system to cycle to the next round like a machine gun they probably would not be able to fire in such a way due to other constraints. Mabey with a great deal of modifcation which would not be possible in a battlefield situation. Not to mention the insane recoil you would get.
