Is there some way to use a joystick when flying, instead of the keyboard?

Under options, click controls then to the left hit "air". In the second column (should be blank) use your joystick to fill out the appropriate fields. Same as BF1942, just a slightly different interface.

Have you used it for any other games before like BF1942? Maybe you just need to calibrate it. In your windows control panel go to game controllers, highlight your stick, select properties, and do the calibration test. Sometimes if you have installed specific sets of drivers the windows calibration test isnt there, in which case your installed driver set should have some kind of calibration wizard. Also double check your throttle settings, if their somehow reversed your taking off right into the ground.

Heh, the mouse vs. joystick thing has been debated to death! I'm all for the joystick. When I use the stick, it feels more like actual flying as opposed to slidng a mouse around on a desk. Whatever works for you is the way to go. ;)

it really depends: it's MUCH easier to dogfight with a joystick (aiming is improved), bombing with planes is about the same, and i dont really know about helis cuz i've never tried using a mouse to fly them (although it's very easy with a joystick after you figure out what each button does, which took me almost a whole day :type:
